Bring me my Rocket Pack!
I was sure I'd mentioned this once or twice, but flicking back through my posts I can't spot it written anywhere. So just in case I'm going mad or people have forgotten, I would like to reiterate the following simple statement: Germans are weird. Though in this case, it's weird but cool.
Once again my subscription to spacewar.com proves a handy little thing, as I came across this report about paratroopers being fitted with modular carbon-fibre wings, thereby allowing them to fly up to 200km AFTER jumping out of their respective transports. Jane's Defence Weekly reported that the next stage of the development will utilise small turbo-jet drives, as used on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Now whilst that is an awesome development for paratroopers in military terms, it's also a generally awesome development. I want a turbo-jet powered backpack that can fly me from Germany to the UK and back! The end of trips to the airport is nigh!
