Just trying to collect ideas...

Hi. This is a post about Cipher.

I've never played Colosseum (or any of the non-portable console games, for that matter). I've only seen it played. But it has always struck me as a very unconventional game for the Pokémon world. I like the concept of Cipher, especially. So I've been thriving on Colosseum fanfiction to see what the game inspired in the minds of the fans.
We had nothing to do in class today, so I wrote the following piece of fan-wank out of boredom. I'll try to translate it.

Much to my horror, most fics refer to Cipher as "*Team* Cipher".
I think there are a few very good reasons why that shouldn't be done... But I have never played the game, so correct my theory about Cipher if I'm wrong, 'kay? :°

Cipher is a *syndicate*, innit?

Of course, like all Pokémon evil teams, it has a paramilitary aspect to it, but it's not the main aspect of the organization, I think. It is more centered on exerting political influence and devoloping technology for their evil schemes.

This is why I think Cipher *in Colosseum* is an allegory of modern society. o.o Let me explain... I've noticed that the four Cipher admins *in Colosseum*, plus Nascour and Evice each seem to incarnate a flaw or a negative aspect of society.

Miror B. -> The cult of celebrity, opulence and looks.
Dakim -> The cult of looks combined with manly strength.
Venus -> Corruption, persuasion and the cult of beauty.
Ein -> The negative side of science, its inhumane and cruel aspect.
Nascour -> The "exterior" part of evil in general, what everyone can see and condemn.
Evice -> The "interior" part of evil, its subtler form infecting even people above every suspicion, the evil producing alienation and a sort of split personality.

Now, I'm afraid XD - Gale of Darkness isn't as polemical a game as Colosseum (even the graphics are more cartoonish and caricatural). In a way, I think Colosseum needed to be "corrected" by XD, as Colosseum was a pretty awkward game for the Pokémon universe: it is ambiguous and many questions in it are left unanswered. This had to be solved by a more "reassuring" and optimistic follow-up of Colosseum, thus XD.

... Yes, it's fan-wank. Yes, I write and think about this kind of stuff more than I probably should. Anyway, please state your opinion. :°
