BAH Your mom's a university!!

College and band are intense, what a crazy first day. I just got thrown into a whole pile of shit and it's kind of fun. I have a million things to unpack and organize and that will just be a pain in the ass. After we got most of my shit up in my room, I just had to say peace out to everybody and wander over to band, which took a really long time to walk to and I was pissed. I didn't really talk to anybody while we were sitting around waiting for the directors to get started and that kind of sucked. I'm useless when it comes to being social with people I don't know, blearggh. I really like my section leader though, she's super cool and funny and sympathetic to my wimpiness. The other frosh in my section is kind of a tool and i don't really like him, but oh well. There is only one person in the section who isn't a rookie or a section leader, so he wasn't here today, but I hear his name is Mike West and that kind of freaks me out because it's a lot like Mike Webber. He'd better be cool. I couldn't bear having that name tarnished. gah

So the marching style of the GVSU Laker Marching Band has a lot of discrepancies to what I'm used to and they are driving me crazy and stuff. Such as..
-the knee stays completely straight on the first step of a forward march, it's like impossible, especially if you want any kind of toe lift
-mark time is a huge knee lift and you bring your heels up level with your ankle bone, going from this to forward march is weird and a pain in the ass
-parade rest is lower and you have to have the bell of the horn lined up along just the left leg, so you have to just throw it down against that leg and I'm getting really cool bruises there, and I'm photo documenting them on my phone, because I'm just that much of a proud band geek
-there are these intense turns where on count eight both feet remain completely straight and then on one you have to do this extreme pivot in long grass to get them turned ninety degrees
-on a halt, you place your right foot and then hesitate with the left and right after the and of eight you snap it really really fast into a close, it looks really aggressive and cool, but hard to execute and rememeber

Wooow, haha yay band. Sorry, but this is like my life for the next week or so. I really want classes to start and my roommate to get here so I have other shit to do and other people to hang out with.

I've decided I'll definitely have to start updating here more since I would no longer just be telling people about the things I did with them that day and stuff. Although, that is mostly a result of how few friends I maintain on this site. Wow, all that exhaustion from this whole crazy day on an hour of sleep just hit me and I have a ton of shit to do before I go to sleep.
