I'm writing my short story final for Creative Writing. I had a random idea hit me about what to write so I was looking for the names of some wooded areas in Maine (since I had decided that it would be set in Maine) and though I'm not using the location, I found some pictures of a home in the Eden Woods of Vermont and it's quite gorgeous.
Anyway, a synopsis of my story:
An old couple lives up in the woods (in a rustic old two-story cabin, of course) and it's beginning to get cold and winter will set in and the snow will come. [At first, I was planning on the following death to be the old woman's but as soon as I started the story, I immediately loved her and couldn't kill her off.] They have taken in a neurotic house guest that is very friendly, etc. but is jumpy and a little crazy. He's there studying the wildlife of New England. They get much more snow than expected at a much earlier time than expected and the three of them are stuck in the house. The man is obviously terrified and he's going on and on about freezing to death and is taking all possible precautions against such a thing. In the end: he burns to death.
