A band I'd like to see

I was flicking through The Metro on the bus today, and I saw that Alice In Chains are playing at the Academy in Glasgow on the 14th of November. They've been around since the Seattle/grunge era but I only discovered them fairly recently. Their most recent album, Black Gives Way to Blue, was pretty excellent and I think they'd be worth seeing. I haven't checked the ticket-price but I won't be the least bit surprised if it's £30 or more*. A lot of cash for a couple of hours' entertainment, and unlikely to be affordable on the amount of money I'll have to live on during my next college term. However, if I focus on the goal of seeing them, perhaps it will provide the incentive I need to find some shitty temporary job, and I could set a wad of cash aside for the ticket, train fare and pints.

This is a great song. Gie it a blast!

Although I've accomplished various minor tasks today, I seem to have slowed to a snail's-pace and I've almost lost the will to move. There's a reason for this. I've just checked the thermometer on my living-room wall, and it's reading 27oC. Centigrade doesn't mean much to a prehistoric dinosaur such as myself, but with the aid of Google's Celcius-to-Fahrenheit converter, I have ascertained that this is a ludicrously hot 80oF. It's also exceedingly humid. This is anything but typical Scottish summer weather. We usually have weather that's fairly nondescript temperature-wise in our few short weeks of summer, and over the past few years we've had prolonged spells of rain and dismal weather, with only the occasional day of sunshine. I don't remember there being a heatwave like this since 1976.

I'm quite convinced the end of the world is upon us. Praise the Lord! No more worrying about trivial little things like how I'm going to pay the fucking rent!

Seriously, I wanted to reply to some e-mails and attend to a few other tasks tonight, but it's too damn hot to concentrate on anything. I'll dose up on coffee and have a go at it first thing tomorrow.

weather, alice in chains
