I was bad yesterday and went overboard with the male characters, so today I'm going to pick just one female character. There are lots I could choose - Xena, Faith from Buffy, Isabella from Robin Hood, Donna from Dr Who, Ace from Dr Who, and so on. But right now in my fandom life I have one definite answer in mind and it's...
Ros Myers, Spooks: I admire Ros in a lot of ways. She's an accomplished MI5 agent, highly trained, good at kicking bad guy ass, looks good with a gun, etc. She's also impossibly practical and unemotional much of the time - she gets on with things you couldn't imagine most people being able to get on with. She's calm and self-disciplined in the face of death. And yet, despite the icy coldness, she's also fiercely passionate. She has a great line in sarcastic put-downs, and a lot of the time approaches her job with a sort of grim humour. She isn't proud - she admits when she gets things wrong, and moves on from it. She never feels sorry for herself. She's a perfectionist, who hates it when the bad guys get anything past her, or when she can't save someone. Above all, she's just so competent. I wish I were more like her. Looks great in a leather jacket and tight jeans too.
