I watched episode 5 of series 2 of Life on Mars last night, and can confirm that it remains one of the funniest things ever. What is it about episode fives in LoM?
Anyway, by far the best bit, maybe the most wonderful thing ever about the whole series, is the very beginning where Sam (who is speeding for plot-related reasons) sees himself as a character in Camberwick Green, and the narrator asks him if he's upset and whether it's because of Gene. 'Is he beating up a nonce?' Cut to a Camberwick Green version of Gene kicking a criminal and beating him over the head with a bin lid.
This had me in hysterics the first time I saw it, and the second, and the third... And it gets even better when Sam grabs Gene by the collar when he next sees him and tells him to 'Stay out of Camberwick Green!'
The episode also features a couple of other wonderful bits of dialogue, especially Gene's 'I say again, only more loudly, HOW?!', and Ray's 'I'm not inert. What's a nert?' (followed by Chris telling him it's like a nonce).
Oh Life on Mars, thank you so much for enriching my life!
P.S. Got to go now, sorry for not replying to comments until tomorrow!
P.P.S. I used to have an LoM Camberwick Green animated icon, but it wasn't very good (didn't have the real DVDs then, so the images were low quality) so I scrapped it. Now I have the DVDs, I must remake it!
