Filmography: The Far Side of the Sun

Recently, I watched a 60s-ish film called 'The Far Side of the Sun'. The premise is slightly weird - it turns out there is another planet directly opposite us on the other side of the Sun (I presume in the same orbit, or it wouldn't really work). Some people send a couple of astronauts over there to find out about it.

Main astronaut guy is played by the always gorgeous Roy Thinnes[1]. The story is sort of cool. At one point he slaps his wife in a really-quite-sexy-though-I-wouldn't-condone-wife-beating sort of way. But that's irrelevant to the plot. The other astronaut guy isn't really ready for the trip. There's all sorts of scheming amongst the guys sending them there. All set up for an epic.

Then you get the crux of the plot - it turns out that the other planet is *exactly like earth* in all respects, with all the same people and everything, *except it's a perfect mirror image*. Well, a perfect mirror image in an also-real-and-tangible kind of way. This is all revealed during a number of realisation moments, including a very well done mirror scene.

It's a damn fine movie. Typical 60s. Has eye candy. Has plot. Has no umlaut on Doppelganger, but hey, we can forgive that. Now, if only it had some action...

[1] Who also played David Vincent in The Invaders. How can you be sitting there saying, "Who?"? Am I the only girl in the world who knows and loves The Invaders and has fallen for David's charms?! If there's anyone else out there who also knows the series... for goodness' sake tell me!
