It's not attractive, you know

A trawl through the paper this morning to avoid reading the displays of vitriol on LJ turned up some interesting stuff.

Don't do it, John! Leave us with one hero, at least.

This reminded me that Chrissie Hynde is wonderful. ( Her Advice to Chick Rockers. )

1. Oh, Johnny, we hardly knew ye... (Sorry! couldn't resist). No, my real reaction was "Oh please God NO NO NO." There are so many other ways for him to remain a total wanker; please let him pick one of those.

2. Also known as "why I've always thought Chrissie Hynde was cool." And it about makes up for the stuff with PETA, although I'm not sure anything could make up for the Jim Kerr thing.

Try not to have a sexual relationship within the band. It always ends in tears.

And she would know.

3. And here I heaved a heavy sigh. Yes, indeed. What's working for me is not reading things I know I won't enjoy, whether it's particular live journal entries, mailing list posts, or stories with certain pairings--and the list of pairings I can't stand gets longer by the day.

I would have commented on this earlier, by the way, but mini-minx has figured out that the computer is a serious rival and tries to pound it whenever I boot up. So if you ever get a message that's all "sddddddddddd" or the like, that's why.

But as CSM said in the article, it would be rivetting viewing ( ... )

And Jim Kerr... he's always struck me as rather a pleasant airhead. Although if rumours are to be believed, his other... attributes.. might take one's mind off his lack of brains. And I'm not talking about the size of his wallet, either. Bwahaha. (I've yet to see the evidence for myself.)

Really? Wow. I'd never heard that. He always struck me as essentially humorless, which is why I made that crack about him.

Did Chrissie Hynde get involved with others in the Pretenders, then?

I think so, at any rate-- with the guitarist in the earliest version of the band, if memory serves. Which it may not. Yesterday I forgot the surname of one of our secretaries; I've only known her for 6 years.

Fandom antics: I stopped keeping track after a few hundred posts. Mob mentality, indeed. And yes, there were some surprising participants.

I wonder if a wide range of things can only be read when you don't really care much about staying close to canon, and prefer to use it as a base (ie providing a universe and a collection of character ( ... )
