It's not attractive, you know

A trawl through the paper this morning to avoid reading the displays of vitriol on LJ turned up some interesting stuff.

Filed under the heading of 'What The Hell Were They Thinking?'
Don't do it, John! Leave us with one hero, at least.

This reminded me that Chrissie Hynde is wonderful. ( Her Advice to Chick Rockers. )

Oh, Johnny, we hardly knew ye...

Oh, haha. Yes, he is an utter wanker. I also think there lurks a bit of a softie underneath that curmudgeonly demeanour. But he's never embarrassed himself, really (although that tour last year was a close-run thing), and I just hope he doesn't start now. But as CSM said in the article, it would be rivetting viewing.

I'd forgotten about the PETA thing. That was pretty uncool. And Jim Kerr... he's always struck me as rather a pleasant airhead. Although if rumours are to be believed, his other... attributes.. might take one's mind off his lack of brains. And I'm not talking about the size of his wallet, either. Bwahaha. (I've yet to see the evidence for myself.)

Did Chrissie Hynde get involved with others in the Pretenders, then?

What's disappointed me most about the fandom antics this week is that people I've previously thought of as intelligent got so worked up about and involved in this. All that guff at f_w was just another example of the mob behaviour that runs through the fandom. It's been interesting, if not pleasant, to watch. My comfortable corner is shrinking by the minute.

the list of pairings I can't stand gets longer by the day

That's interesting. You used to read almost everything. So did I, come to think of it, although that was years ago. I wonder if a wide range of things can only be read when you don't really care much about staying close to canon, and prefer to use it as a base (ie providing a universe and a collection of character names).

Btw, sort-of on this subject, there was one particular post, on someone's journal, which I'll have to come back to later on the bf; it's too good to ignore.

Miniminx is surely dropping hints that she wants a toy computer for her birthday.

Really? Wow. I'd never heard that. He always struck me as essentially humorless, which is why I made that crack about him.

I think so, at any rate-- with the guitarist in the earliest version of the band, if memory serves. Which it may not. Yesterday I forgot the surname of one of our secretaries; I've only known her for 6 years.

Fandom antics: I stopped keeping track after a few hundred posts. Mob mentality, indeed. And yes, there were some surprising participants.

That makes sense. And I think there are a range of motivations for wanting to stay close to canon, including an emotional investment in a canon-based portrayal of the world and its characters-- something that seems to me to be noticeably lacking in some stories. But more on that elsewhere.

Do they make toy computers? Stupid question, of course they do. They make toy cell phones, after all.
