They run and leap from rooftop to rooftop, night after night in hopes of running into one another. Neither would admit it. Neither could explain it. But neither could deny it.
Their jobs came before all else, of course. Stopping the criminals for him, helping those who couldn't help themselves for her.
They awoke every morning alone, longing for the other. Wishing for a different time and place. One where they could exist together. One where they could be free for each other. But that will never be.
Thus, their nightly dance...going out in search of their need, pretending not to care when they finally come face to face, but staying longer than they should knowing that's all they can ever have because it's all they're willing to give.

She wants to ask him to stay, but she can't. He wants to stay, but he won't.
So, he gets up while the sun is still hidden and gets dressed in his nightly attire. She turns to face the wall, giving him a view of her back.
They're always excited and almost talkative as they're falling into bed, but so quiet and solemn as they think they have to part.
The next night they'll avoid each other and go to great lengths to keep their distance. In a week or two, they'll “accidentally” meet on one of their usual rooftops beginning their game once again.
