Back From Portland

So I am once again in Ohio. I returned on Friday evening after another long day of airports. Traveling can be such a pain in the ass sometimes. Its lost time and you never really get that time back:)

Anyway, I should chronicle my trip (and I am avoiding working on my thesis). I arrived in Portland around 10:30 on Friday January 7th. Nice airport, not too big, so I didn't have too much walking to do at least. Joe was nice enough to come in and get me so I didn't have to try and navigate through traffic to find his car, which I hadn't seen before:) My bag made it off the plane relatively quickly, however the clerk told me the wrong baggage claim number, so I had to keep my eyes on two different ones to find it. I did, and we made it back to Joe's house relatively quickly after that. Fucking awesome house by the way, although it is a bit cold at times, thank goodness for warm socks!

Saturday Joe and his roommate Brian took me downtown to explore the city. Great city, not too big, and yet big enough that there is plenty to see and do. Plus public transit is nice and clean, such a positive I think. We saw Lemony Snickett's A Series of Unfortunate Events that afternoon, and had dinner at an Italian place that evening. When we got back to the house, we discovered that the rest of the gang (Roy, Electra, Jesse, Nicodemus and Dan) were going to Cold Stone Creamery and to see I Heart Huckabees. So it was on to another movie. Hysterical movie by the way, go see it now!

Sunday was a lazy day of video games, naps, and sushi!!!! Cheap sushi is my friend, it doesn't exist in Ohio. Monday I got to sleep in:) And dinner was a trip downtown for sushi again! I love being near water, makes for cheap sushi on a regular basis. Tuesday came interviews, three to be exact, at the Regional Arts and Culture Council, Portland Center Stage, and Artists Repertory Theatre. The council and ART went really well, Jeff and Barrett were awesome and really nice to talk to. Kathy at PCS was ok, bigger theatres aren't as interested in the average person who comes across their door, but she was nice enough. Tuesday Joe made dinner (mmmm, homemade food) and we hung out and went for a drink with Roy, Electra, and some of Roy's classmates.

Wednesday came with my last interview at Profile Theatre Project with Jane. That went REALLY well, nice small company which did lots of neat shows. Strong possibility for employment with them, I have to keep in touch with her:) Wednesday we went gothing at The Embers, lots of fun, good music. I was in heaven when they played the goth mix of Like A Prayer. Although being hit on by sketchy guys, one of them only 4-5 feet tall, was not so fun:)

Thursday Joe took the day off of work and we went around Portland taking pictures and hanging out. The gang went to Quiznos for dinner, and the rest of the evening was just hanging out and chatting. Lots of fun, good group of people out there.

Friday I flew home. I was very sad to go. Great city, good friends, and it was hard to say goodbye to one of my closest friends. It had been four years since we had seen each other, and I got used to having him around again:)
