That's what a town in Montana says. I mentioned to Ron just yesterday that I remember a small town in the upper plains that had build a state of the art prison that was just sitting there empty - and was looking for the prisoners to fill it.
Today I find an article in the "San Diego Union-Tribune" that Hardin, Montana WANTS the Guantanamo detainees for there prison. It is a medium security prison (easily upgraded to heavy) fully outfitted with everything from cafeteria trays, sweat socks and 88 surveillance cameras. Hardin's six member council passed a resolution last month in favor of taking the detainees.
However, Montana's congressional delegation said it would never happen. Why? Sen. Jon Tester said that he doesn't think the people know what they'd be getting into - even though there is a rep for Montanans being Second Amendment loving gun owners - they say that putting terrorists on Montana soil could invite attacks from the detainees' sympathizers. Gov. Brian Schweitzer said that it is every state's obligation to do its part in addressing terrorism, but he dismissed the Hardin prison as not up to the task.
This town has already done the feasibility studies on what it would take to make the prison up to spec, they would love the jobs and the infusion of money. A place that says "Yes, in my backyard!" and the idiot politicians saying "No". Opinions?
