what a tiring day! Just the highlights because I have to get up at 7 and drive to Wales.
Started the day at the British Museum. Impressive collection of Egyptian artifacts. Saw the rosetta stone. Amazing. Also saw the Elgin Marbles... these are the statues and friezes from the Greek Parthenon. The British liked to collect things.
After that I went to Trafalgar Square to see some performance art. Very weird and not that good, but definitely very strange. Think giant orange sculptures filled with air, multiple performers with these weird orange plastic air filled things on their backs... one of the performers had no legs, and performance dancing, and... well I will post pictures later, words just don't do it.
Made it to the
Bodies exhibit! There is no way I can describe how good this exhibit is. If you get a chance, go see it. I think its still in NYC. Check the website.
Stopped in the covent garden area again - in the main square to see the street performers and get a snack. Had a great "pasty." This is a pastry filled with various stuff. I had one with sausage. The story is these things were invented by the wives of the miners in Cornwall. They would take the leftovers from dinner and wrap them in a thick pastry for the men to take too eat in the mines the next day. The wrapping was to protect them if they dropped the food down the mine. They scored their initials into them before baking so the men could feel which one was theirs. The shape is suppose t be from stuffing them in their pockets. Yuck. But tasty. I did not put mine in my pocket.
Ended the night with dinner in china town again followed by sitting at the italian cafe in soho to drink coffee and watch people go by.
Tomorrow its on to Wales and seeing castles.
On the "mind the..." fascination... saw many "mind your head" signs today. Been minding my head all day long. :-)
