mind the gap
It seems to be an essential british phrase. You see and hear it everywhere. As in, mind the gap between the platform and the subway car. Or mind the gap when exiting the lift. As in, don't trip! Actually, you hear a lot of things following "mind the..." I thought it would be a great thing to put on a tee shirt... and then I saw they already had tee shirts that said that. For me its currently, mind the cocktail...
So today: Started by taking the tube to notting hill, as in the movie. They have a open air market lining the streets. It seemed to be several miles long, at least thats what my feet think. There was a wild sculpture in notting hill. I called it "falling babies" and it looks like a spigot made out of a baby with water coming out filled with babies... very weird:
After that I stopped into a place famous for their very eclectic interior and outstanding drinks. (Mind the cocktail.) Its called
Beach Blanket Babylon. Yet, that name says it all.
After that I had to complete a pilgrimage... to Abbey Road. I'm sorry to say... yes, I had to recreate the famous cover of the Beatles Abby Road cover... and not get run over by traffic. Drivers must get REALLY tired of people doing this. Anyway, here is my version...
Next stop was to Piccadily Circus (a tube stop and name of an area) to go to the Ice Bar. This is just like the one at the ice hotel. The interior is COLD! Like -5 degrees C. They put a parka on you and gloves. The bar, the tables, the places to sit -- its all made out of ice. Even the glasses. Its a gimmick but it was a LOT of fun! And I stil only have short sleeves and despite the parka you are getting frostbitten. And of course the vodka is ice cold! (Mind the cocktail.) Here is a picture of me in there...
Then somehow I ended up INSIDE of a giant icecube...
Dinner time... I headed back to soho and found an indian restaurant which was just ok. Which is a shame since london is suppose to have the very best indian food. Then I went to the cafe for that great expresso and here I am... writing this.
Oh, I am very excited. There is an exhibit called bodies that I missed in NYC but is here. Real human bodies. Dissected. Turned into art. Sounds bad, but its really cool. Might see it tomorrow.
Off to sleep... and please, mind the gap.
