I hate looking at pictures of creepy crawlies. (I'm probably really asking for trouble in saying this). Particularly when, like tonight, my feet do not have the adamantium protective layer of socks. The thought that as I'm looking at this picture of a tarantula, something might brush over my vulnerable feet is enough to fill me with dread. If there was a sensation in my foot, like a computer manual sliding off the shelf or a hair prickling, then I'd be perfectly capable of shifting them at some heretofore unknown velocity skywards.

I needed a few pictures of 'Bee eyes' for a CD cover. Bees are great creatures and for some reason I have absolutely no problem with them at any scale. Hornets, caterpillars, moths and butterflies, they're all fine. Even slightly more offensive beasts like Locusts and crickets hold no fear. Flies are a bit repugnant. Spiders, tarantulas, giant snails (for some reason), cockroaches, really big things that I can't identify that have enormous horrible feelers, all of these make my flesh creep.

I don't know if it's actual fear. The rational part of my brain tells me that they're amazing living creatures and that they should be cherished. However, when the irrational part of my brain says 'Get that damn thing off my foot!' the rational side agrees and reflex actions take hold. I would argue that it is more of a reflex than actual fear. Like putting a hand into boiling water or a stinging nettle. Withdraw! Fear! Pests! Argh!
