At work, we're holding a release party for the next/final Series of Unfortunate Events. We had a SoUE party over the summer with one of the employees making an appearance as Count Olaf (the antagonist of the series, played by Jim Carrie in the film), anyway, his availabily changed so they needed someone to play the part this time around... they asked me.
I was slightly flattered that they asked me to do it, picking up shifts is one thing, but at this store working the events is a bit of a big deal. I, just don't know how to react the way I was asked. Since starting at Princeton, I've spoken with our CRM twice, and it didn't go well either time. When she learned of the whole in the event she asked the management who was reliable and can pick up the extra hours. For the first reason or the second, I was unanimously nominated.... then she apologizes that she never really got to know my name, I tell her its no big deal, trying to play nice, then she goes.... "You really have the look of the character."
Halfway through my programmed auto-response of "thank-you," I relized what I was thanking her for saying. "Yes, why thank you, I'm too thin for my height and look as though I may terrorize small children over an inheritance-..." I can keep going but I've only read the first two books and I'm sure there's more that got added on since then.
Well, despite the strange compliment, I think I'll do it. The only thing I have to get sorted out is that it falls on a Friday night (Friday the 13th), and need the night off from the film co-op. I figure I get to go in, and get paid... to be mean to little kids and their parents. If I go through with it, I'll probably spend a few days prior learning and revamping Dr. Cox rants to fit annoying customers instead of annoying interns.
Do I really look like a scumbag?
--Edit
Ok, to be fair, I haven't shaved in a few days so have stubble on top of my goatee, and it was 8am so I did have my "hit by a bus" air about me.
