First day of school

Aug 23, 2004 20:26

Well today was the first day of classes at GSU, including mine, and the ones I tought met today as well as one of the ones I will be taking. The class that I teach went smoothly although given that there was nothing to do, I can't see how it could've gone otherwise. I suppose I could've wet myself in public that would've been hard to get over if I'd done it  in front of my students, but other than that nothing could've gone wrong, and so nothing much did go wrong. However thats only the teaching and teaching is a small part of graduate school.

I found out this morning shortly before classes that I had no schedule. Now I was in the computers system as a student, but had no classes listed to my name, nor could I register for them then. I found out that the classes I wanted were still available, except for one. I went into the office of the prof to ask for an overenrollment (thats where they say that you can take a class even if there's no room in it technically, they do this a lot in graduate school). She said "how did you get in here."  I explained something about how I could probably get into the oval office if I acted and looked like I knew what I was doing, but she still seemed nervous. I guess she has a stalker. If you are that stalker Dr. Fruendberg is easily gotten to at her office so go to town now that you know this. Anyway she wouldn't add the spot which is why I'm refering her stalkers to her office. She's really quite nice overall, except she wouldn't let me take her course. So I'll have to do that again next semester. Dr. Moohn (weird spelling, eh?) who writes about Chinese immigrants, and 19th century America and Race and other such weirdness (all stuff I enjoy, I just can't get enough of chinese immigrants, isn't that right Jonathan Xa and the rest of the Xa clan? And carol can back me up as well), anyway Dr. Moohn agreed to let me take an independent readings class with her, which was awfully nice on such short notice, (like a DAY!?!?!)  which is awesome since now I get personalized attention instead of a class I barely wanted. The class I barely wanted (taught by the evil, but sweet, Dr. Freundberg) will wait until next semester. So there. :-p
BTW Dr. Freundberg is not her real name, I made it up, she is a real professor, but thats just not her real name, I wouldn't refer potential stalkers to a real person like that.
It actually worked out well and better than I expected, or planned initally. Which is only because God is good, and  Now that I am free to say that I feel much better.
