In reference to the 2nd to last entry (the link from my dad), I have since talked to him and gained an important perspective:
"Robin, you and I are exactly the same (in this regard). Being in a creative field is not easy. I know what you're going through--I've lived it my whole life!"
"Oh my God. You're right. Why didn't that hit me before?"
My dad is a jazz pianist. His degrees are in music theory and composition. While I was growing up, he would always come home at different times of the night in a tux after a gig. I knew--always--that was the kind of life I wanted: unexpected. And then, I somehow forgot that the struggle I decided I wanted was one he knew well. And I thought he didn't understand.
