I got an email from my cousin Rosemeri that my Aunt Frances died on Sunday. It was not a surprise because Rosemeri had sent a previous email letting us know that Frances had gone into a coma. I don't know how old she was, but my dad was the baby of the family and he just turned 70 last month...
I think that out of seven children, only my dad and Uncle John are left.
Out of the seven children, only two (Frances and Anthony) had red hair--the rest had black hair. Dark red hair is a Sicilian trait, but it is recessive. Our family reunions always had the game "spot the redheads". My father (black hair) was the only sibling to get 100% red hair in his children (it helps to marry an Irish/Scots woman.)
I remember Frances with mostly grey hair, but when I was little, she went into her bedroom and came out with an envelope to show to me. Inside were a couple of those sausage curls little girls wore in the early twentieth century. It was her hair, and was a beautiful dark auburn, not unlike what my hair used to be.
