So how are we going to get it identified? Maybe find an undergrad at a University chem lab who'll trade favors? Or do we have any friends from the clinic (like that nurse) who might have access to equipment and be willing to help, now that we're properly medicated and all?
Hell, taste a sample of that substance. A small enough amount to tell whether it tastes like blood won't be enough to hurt us if it turns out to be paint or something.
I'd like to combine "Preserve a sample" with "Go hide in the shed". There's probably a compelling reason for this, but at the moment I have no idea what it would be.
