A soft peach glow raised it arms upwards from the horizon. I watched as it embraced the clouds, as it casually caressed the gentle contours of massive cotton-ball nothings. I watched and I wondered; I watched and was amazed. The gentle embers of the day opened its arms, hugged the night. Colours shifted, grew darker. Shadows that had been slowly stretching and expanding across the earth suddenly melded with the sun’s kind burning, becoming one. A serene dimness lay over everything. Released from the heat of the day, the world prepared to rest. The wind working through the leaves, finally cool again, heaved a sigh of relief. It danced orbits with the objects around it, swirling circles of joyful abandon. Riding on the increasingly dark air, pushing the shadow in waves, I felt the first gust of night hit me. Looking upwards, the day’s peach glow had died. In its place lay a swirling ocean of swimming lights, twinkling and traveling and spreading outwards forever. I breathed in and, carried by the breeze, I tasted the stars.
