Piping at the graduation was a fiasco. We got there and only one other member of the band was there yet. The group from Montgomery arrived about 15 or 20 minutes after 2:00. Everyone was a little slow to get warming up. Our pipe major had a hard time tuning because it was so hot, the reeds wouldn't stay in tune. Around 2:40 we started walking toward the graduates' gathering area, finishing tuning our drones as we went. One of our members mis-stepped on a curb and fell, skinning his knee but not damaging his pipes. He got up and was okay to go. At which time we found the dean and faculty had reached us. We quickly fell into formation and started playing. The 50 yards to the front of the auditorium sounded hellish. We were not together at all. I thought I was keeping up, but the pipe major kept turning toward me about 4 measures ahead. The people behind me were at their own spots in the music as well. When we formed up in front of the auditorium, we finally got together. We were over by 3:05, the time that in the past, we started. *sigh*
I spent most of the hour-long drive to Tuscaloosa trying to cool off and drinking lots of Propel water. The visit with Diane was nice.
We left there around 6:30 to drive to Hueyville to visit a friend. We had planned to take him to our favorite Indian restaurant, but he wasn't up for it. We went on without him. Had a great meal, but the service sucked. We had planned to go back to Richard's afterward, but after finishing, we were tired, so we came home. Got home around 11:30, I checked email and dragged my droopy ass to bed. Slept until 1:30 this afternoon.
