Today is our pipe band's big annual paying gig. We play for the law school graduation at Samford University in Birmingham. I'm not quite sure how we keep getting this gig, since Birmingham has 2 pipe bands.
The band meets at a bank parking lot and leaves Montgomery at 12:30. We get to Samford around 2 and spend the next hour warming up and tuning. Sometime around 3:00, the university officials get the graduates lined up and marching across campus. We then march ahead of them for about 100 yards around a couple of buildings to the auditorium. We then stand on either side of the sidwalk while the graduates pass between us into the auditorium. It takes about 20 minutes.
We play the same 2 tunes over and over and OVER.
To top that off, the weather report for today is HOT, definitely in the 80s, probably in the 90s.
Phil and I are going up separately from the rest of the group because we have to go to Tuscaloosa and celebrate Mothra's Day and Phil's birthday, since we we not feeling well enough last weekend to go up.
Then, we'll be going back to Bham to spend some time with friends and go eat Indian.
