This morning around 7:35 I was putting on my socks and boots and looked over to see Taz playing with a 12-inch length of candle wicking. I yelled at him, clapped loudly to try to get him to leave it alone, all to no avail. Phil was closer to Taz, but by the time I could get Phil involved, Taz had run under the furniture, with the wick in his teeth. We started chasing him to get the wick away from him, and that's when he started swallowing it. For almost 10 minutes we chased him, scaring him out from under the bed and dressers, but he would scurry under something else before we could catch him. All the while, he swallows more and more of the wick. After the wick was all swallowed, it still took us about 5 minutes to finally catch him and put him in the cat carrier.
Phil got dressed and called the vet. They said to bring Taz in that they'd take care of it. We dropped the kitty off at the vet, then Phil drove me to work. It was a while before the vet could look at Taz. When she did, she decided that getting him to throw up the string would be the best solution. So she administered an anesthetic that always makes cats throw up. Did it work? Of course not! Our cat has to be different. So, what do they do next? Ipecac? Tickly grass? Nope. Hydrogen Peroxide. That did the trick and Taz horked up the (now) lump of string. They kept the kitten for observation and Phil picked him up at 4.
