The first book is from the point of view of a zombie girl, Jessie, who is honestly one of my favorite fictional characters, while the second book is told from the point of view of a human teenage girl, Amy. The series itself is building up to something big and world-changing, and the mystery of what's going on is as compelling as the rest of the story.
I will say, though, if you're squeamish, you should know that there is a lot of talk of rot, decomposition, etc., and that which comes from dead bodies. For what it's worth, I'm incredibly squeamish about bodily functions, and neither of the books bothered me at all.
