Hey, why is Bones nicknamed Bones? I haven't watched the movie yet so if it's explained in it I'm so sorry please don't hate me I'm just wondering!

I agree with your feelings on genderswap. So often when people turn men into women (and how often does it happen the other way around? I guess when there are so few important female characters anyway...) they turn them into Stereotype Lady With Lady Parts And Emotions And Menstruation which is just gross. That you like this story fills me with hope so I am off to read it!

In the original series, he was nicknamed Bones after 'sawbones', the old term for doctors. In the movie, Kirk gives him the nickname after he tells Kirk, "The ex-wife got the planet in the divorce. All I've got left are my Bones." And then he passes over his flask of hooch and a friendship is born. :D

Ahahahaha! I loved that bit. Also his drunken, circular arguments that end with him blaming Bones for everything! Still my favorite ship.
