I love using this journal for random background things for rowan. I haven't had only one character in years and I love it so much :|b
But eventually I will actually ask for requests, so I am going to get the info here so I can reference it if needed
FAMILY
Rowan is from a family of artists that vary from the fantastic (his mother) to the meh (brother, maybe father). They are all at the edge of ~scandalous~ that makes them interesting without driving them out of town entirely. I don't have details on their husbands/wives/children (yet), so anyone who wants to app any of them is pretty much given free reign on that.
Hua Mata - Rowan's mother and very much the one in charge of the family. She specializes in instruments, especially ones from China that she's been able to collect over the years. Very strong personality, very exacting in her art, very much an informant for the Sabreme family. Rowan is her favorite, although the reasons as to why specifically are never stated/known. Not something required because Rowan has no idea, but she could also be very active in the underground/blackmailing/informant subculture and that is why the Matas have so much money.
Oliver Mata - Rowan's father, who has disconnected from his family as much as he can with the exception of Amaryllis and her family. He is not the most inspired of bards, but he holds his own and is very loyal to his sponsor, a minor Sabreme noble. May have some random illegitimate children running around, but he has never acknowledged them and only Amaryllis even suspects anything. Rowan is his least favorite child by far; ironically, Rowan is also the only one who is very clearly his own child.
Amaryllis ____ - 35-40 Rowan's oldest sister and his second favorite person in his family. Amaryllis is the unofficial heir of the family and followed in her mother's footsteps, but with more focus on singing and classic instruments instead of Chinese ones. Is married with 4-5 children, and the oldest is around 16 or so. Is the only child close to their father.
Lotus Mata - 30ish The second oldest child, and the most mysterious because no one really knows what she's up to or if she even has a sponsor for her paintings. She makes enough to survive (possibly much more) and shrugs off anyone who tries to figure out how outside of her artwork. Is at war with Hua because she still has not gotten married and refuses to - Rowan approves because the more his mother focuses on Lotus, the less she focuses on the fact he isn't either. She can totally be something like an assassin or deep into the underground informant network or just having an affair with a noble.
Juniper Mata - 27 the oldest boy and official heir of the family. He didn't get much of a choice in following his father into being a bard, but he isn't half bad. He is very quiet, very passive, and mostly lets his family do what they will without fighting them because they steamroll right over him. He is vvv happily married with a few v young children, which has done wonders for his and Rowan's relationship. They went from vague head-nods-on-what-you-think-is-important to bonding over adorable babies.
OTHER
Any of his artistic friends/siblings thereof :D People who remember him when he was younger and trying to fit in
Adept Lenore - 60s. Herbalist previously research focused and now medical focused. Professional and friendly at work, cranky and argumentative in her personal life/with Rowan constantly. They are very fond of each other anyways since they mostly bonded through their arguments and she's made him a much better researcher through it. She travels outside of the Hour as a physician of sorts and has connections to at least one noble house. Loves to make Rowan's life miserable because it makes him a Better Person.
