I feel like essaying! And one of the fun things about Rowan's development is the fact he is pulling from five of my previous characters, as well as developing his own personality among it. Since most people don't know the characters that have gone into him, I will describe them and their influence on his development here.
Also I love and miss them and want to talk about them.
Mallory Bruhn
Mallory was from Ad Meloria and was a Knight Templar from Alternate Earth. He was the Senior Agent of the small group because the actual senior agents died, the weapons and defensive expert, legal expert. He was also Powered - he aged twice as slow as normal people. Which meant that he was a thirty-five year old in the body of a sixteen year old (or younger) and had a chip on his shoulder bigger than he was. He was socially retarded, very honest, and very blunt, and somehow managed to pick up a lot of people who actually liked him. idek. Random facts: He grew up in Rome, Italy with his mother (Sanna, who shared his power) and no known father; he is a very strong Catholic; very asexual; very devoted to the mission of the Templars; was legit heartbroken when Daffy stopped talking to him.
He is the biggest influence into Rowan's personality as of right now. Rowan shares the Good But Not Nice personality, somehow picks up friends despite the fact his personality is sort of shitty, and the honesty. Rowan did not pick up the asexual bit though, and Mallory is bitter he lost that vote 1 to 4.
What amused me the most when I was developing him was that at least two of his CR going into the game (Marijke and Lucia) was for the Mallory bits of his personality, despite the fact those were the most socially stupid.
Cullen "Conrad" Hayworth
Conrad (he does not go by Cullen fu Twilight) is the newest character of this bunch and, sadly, the least developed because he came in at the end of Ad Meloria. He was an Ad Finitium Agent along with his older sister because they took his psychic grandmother and they were bidding their time in order to get her out. He didn't care much for Ad Finitium and had even less respect for Ad Meloria. Had the fourth faction come out, he would've gone there. He was dismissive and only cared for his sister and his grandmother; everyone could take a long walk off a shirt pier. He was more of an ass to people because he didn't care about anyone and, if you were stupid, you were not worth his time. He was a part time college student and a part time worker at the recently recreated World Weekly News, where he kept an eye out for information Ad Finitium wanted and trolled people and put them into articles that were highly unflattering.
Conrad's influenced is mixed with Amata's, because they share a lot of the vanity and creativeness that Rowan has. However, Conrad brings in a good deal of Rowan's asshole-on-purpose bits and the same sort of vanity. Eventually, I will get more comfortable writing him and his writing will get more dramatic and flourishy as another aspect of Conrad coming into the character.
Also I was so close to using this PB, because MatsuJun has some epic bitch faces and of all members of Arashi he is the closest in personality to Rowan. Also Jun is pretty and I like looking at pretty.
Amata Soto
This character people should know if they've RP'd with me before. Amata is one of my main characters, which is why I'm trying not to play her directly this time around. She always starts out as the rich daughter of some noble and the development of her character is either trying to fit into the requirements of it or rebelling and escaping them overtly or subtly. She is bitchy and intelligent, but hides it between an overtly sweet and brain-dead facade. Most of her friends don't know how deep that goes; Helios is one of her best friends and he constantly underestimates her. She is also highly artistic and, when she's given the chance to be independent, finds a lot of inner strength to succeeded.
A lot of Amata's direct impact on Rowan is something that actually came in through Conrad. However, Amata has a lot of indirect influence on him because she is my proto-type for his family. She's most specifically his oldest sister, but all of the female members of his family share the same personality profile. She also shares the huge smile and large dark eyes that Rowan does, which is another of the big reasons I used Aiba for my PB.
Danute Simonis
People will actually know this one! Danute is the updated Douweis with the same basic personally - faith, but a different background and a much different family dynamic. She was born in Lithuania and had her mom die in a fire right in front of her. Her dad gives her to his parents and runs off to do ... something that she never finds out, and she ends up being a creepy repressed child that is very dedicated, very motivated, and hates technology a whole lot because her grandparents had a television and an old vcr and that was it. She was not powered and likely immune, considering that her research was on the environments that mutations happened in and spent all of her time with mutated plants.
Her influence in Rowan's personality should be apparent. We are lucky that, unlike Danute's plants, his are not yet sentient and appearing in random places everywhere like her venus flytraps. Or that he doesn't collect retarded pets like she did.
Chen "Briar" Lin
Briar is Rowan's exact opposite and much closer to the PB's actual personality. He is happy and clumsy and very friendly, devoted to his family to the degree that it is detrimental to his own well-being. Aiba has some wonderful sad faces that I had to take advantage of and my habit of destroying the mind's of characters came out in full force. He was the second oldest of eight children; his older brother left before the game started and Briar was the secondary caretaker of his six younger siblings. He was newly Powered at the beginning of Ad Meloria with the ability to walk through dreams. This turned him into a insomniac. He was also the day manager for the bookstore his parents owned, and had no real concept of having a life outside of his family.
Then over the timeskip I killed off his mother and made him the primary caretaker of his family and the manager of the store and basically he was on the fast track to a literal breakdown by the end of the RP, and I hadn't brought in the big plot that could've broken him for real.
Rowan is the exact opposite of all of this except for the fact they have the same smile (that Rowan doesn't use) and they love children. Rowan atm adores and dotes on his nieces and nephews, but would dote on his own children just as much. The biggest influence is obviously the PB, because I wanted to play against type.
Aiba is probably the most peculiar PB for Rowan because Aiba is a giant happy bouncing ball of fail. He is known for his fail in a band that has risen up the concept to an art form, but also the energy, enthusiasm, and heart of the band. He is also a cry baby, loves his band dearly, and despite being a giant ball of sunshine can make some awesome bitchfaces.
