Responsibility - It's a word that adults like to use when preaching their children. They like to emphasis that each person has their own responsibility in their lives, at school or home. It's a lesson I'm sure most people have attended in the process of growing up. The introduction of responsibility, in my opinion, is essential in the upbringing of a child and the development of civilization/society. With responsibility, everyone has a role to play and so, they would know what to do according to the role given. How those roles are distributed is a question worth discussing, yet, this is not what I want to talk about now. Maybe for another time.
What I want to talk about is the meaning of "responsibility". Although it is well understood that this word means obligation to do something or to be in charge of something, I want to bring out something that is usually a tie-in product with responsibility - power. By assuming responsibility, it implies that you have the power to take charge over something or that you have been given the power to let yourself do something. So, when someone has responsibility, they usually have the power. Yet, does this relationship go the other way round? Is it that once one gets power, they are given the responsibility over something? I believe they should be linked. However, if that is so, our society does not usually play by such logic. At least not in my part of the world, however small it might be.
The more I see, the more I realize that all that which lies behind the untouchable and unspeakable are lies and cowardice. My point is, if adults cannot fulfill their responsibility of behaving how they teach us to behave and treat those ideals with disdain behind our backs, they have no right to give us the finger of blame when we fail those standards. That's downright two-faced and sick. They might be afraid to be laughed at if they follow the righteous rules they teach us, but if you are so afraid, what use is there in saying things you don't really mean? It would be better if you just kept silent as the alternative only means that you are a hypocrite. I guess nobody likes to be called that, eh? Or, if you've really got the guts, live what you preach. People should stop trying to gain the power that they don't deserve. It's breaking the fundamental ideals of a civilization and I don't want to see that happen, though it is happening right in front of my eyes.
People say equality, freedom and rights have corrupted the young and turned them to extremists who attack the old with venom the old cannot stand in this society, but have they ever looked into a mirror to see who they've become and think back to their youth and compare the situation? Is there any difference? I guess not much, only that the gaps between ideal and truth are covered up by beautiful lies of all kinds to make the reality "presentable" generation after generation. And when the gap between ideal and reality get bigger and bigger, they are no longer able to be covered up anymore. The lies only appear more laughable and desperate.
Deceive all you like, but I'm staying awake this time. I might not be able to live exactly like the ideals, but I will at least try with what little heart I have left.
