We have several issues to work on globally as a nation.
1. Continued Peace Efforts which are in part helping people toward a better quality of life. This can be anything from providing infrastructure of various kinds to help with start up companies to providing basic aid, medical aid, etc.
2. Continued Ecological Balancing in the US throughout the nation. It's not that we can't use nature, it's that nature must also thrive even when used and better still, working with you. We can work together on many issues and still improve the negative impacts as they are today. Any step forward, is still a step forward on the journey toward a world of well being.
3. We should bring in people of Hispanic backgrounds, Japanese backgrounds etc..IF and only IF they are well qualified for the job. When are we going to stop dictating based on color, race, etc. Best qualified should prevail. However, when there has been gross bias, as there has been still in the key positions in the US Government, it should be remedied. But not at the price of qualifications. Someone who isn't qualified, is not qualified, regardless of race, religion etc.
4. We need to deal with the issues of those still imprisoned without trial from the "war on terror." Guitanamo should be shut down. IN fact, I'd hand the families and inmates the sledge hammers and back hoes to knock the heck out of those walls along with Americans who opposed the war. By golly nothing helps like knocking into the ground your prison. Bring lots of Klenex. What I would suggest, and granted I don't know all the facts, but in this case, I would get a neutral third party to judge what to do with these people. Perhaps a country that knows terrorism well but that is not really directly involved in this. Ireland comes to mind, or African Nations.
5. We really need to figure out the immigration policies. They were originally based on racial quotas and quite frankly, there is no sense in having Visas etc for just traveling between Canada and Mexico. In some ways, Canada is like any other State in the US. Mexico I've never been to, but the people from there seem very nice. Maybe the Panama Canal could be a natural divide. But seriously, when it divides families, things are wrong there.
6. Since everyone is now completely addicted to the Ipods, ATT Blackberries, whatever.... while DRIVING, I think this is a case where maybe people need to think transit. Text, twitter, talk, view...etc...in SAFETY!
I don't know much about some of the details in front of our nations, and basically you just have to take a heading toward freedom, toward the type of world you want. It's not so much that America is a democracy...because we all know that it really isn't. At best when it runs well, it is a representational democracy and on an average day a representational republic.
Americans know now how quick our liberties and the liberties of other nations can be taken with bad management. And we now recognize that we all need to pitch in and give our two cents when possible. Freedom is not free, but it doesn't take so much fighting, as hard work to keep it going forward. It's like relationships. Quality takes constant maintenance.
