Roger lifted a hand and wiped at his face before he reached for a fresh set of gloves. Closing his kit, he stood up and turned around in a circle, looking at the charred remains of someone's livelihood. He sighed. The fact that it was someone he knew -- three someones, in fact -- didn't make this easier, but he knew he couldn't waste time right now. If there was any evidence left, he needed to find it.

Kingsley had sent the owl, and Roger had been here before even hearing what had happened on the wireless. There'd already been Aurors there, interviewing anyone who might have seen what happened, but they needed to find out how the blaze had started. The fire was out now, and it was time to pick over what was left. Greengrass would be on her way, he knew; they'd need an extra set of eyes, and it would be good training for her.

Resolutely, he ignored the charred boxes of tricks and ruined displays, for now, and focused on the scorch marks and soot patterns on the floor, the walls. It wasn't the first fire he'd investigated, but he'd never dealt with anything this big.

The fire had started in this room, he could be reasonably sure of that. He lifted his camera and took a few pictures. For now, he could see at least two possible areas of origin, both on the floor. But was it arson? Maybe -- probably, Roger thought grimly, but he couldn't form any firm conclusions until he got a better idea what the accelerant had been. They'd need to collect samples of the debris and take them back to the lab. The fire had spread so quickly that Roger wouldn't be surprised if the original explosion had caught some other chemicals or potions in the shop and caused the fire to burn longer. That would make the exact cause a bit harder to pin down.

He blew out a breath and moved gingerly around, looking for a possible ignition source, while Aurors milled around and bystanders began to show up.
