Date: 15th July Characters: Draco Malfoy/Hermione Granger Location: Italian Kitchen Status: Private Summary: Draco and Hermione take time out for lunch Status: Incomplete
Mondays were usually busy, and this was no exception. Hermione had been reviewing her entire case load, planning the rest of her week and filing things that had been resolved recently. The invitation from Draco regarding lunch had been unexpected, but it made for a nice break during a hectic day. Besides, she could always make time for Italian food.
She arrived at the Italian Kitchen on time and looked around. When she spotted Draco, she walked over to his table and sat down. "Good afternoon," she said as she put down her bag and reached for a menu. "How have you been? It's been ages since we've had an opportunity to speak."
"I didn't think my owls were adequate compensation," Draco answered, amused. "Although I could have made more of an effort on my behalf. I hope you haven't been too busy."
He smiled at Hermione. She looked so...professional, somehow, with her work bag and her neat robes. "I'm fine, thank you. Have things been going well at Fleur's? I haven't dropped by recently. But of course, you know that." He already knew what he was ordering, but he dried his hands on a serviette and opened the menu anyway, casually looking over it.
"Owls are fine for staying in touch, but letters don't replace human contact," she mused. "As for effort, there's no blame to place in this situation. It does work both ways, after all, and I've been so busy recently that I haven't had a chance to see friends."
She looked up from the menu and smiled. "A good busy, for what it's worth, though my work at Hogwarts ended a couple of weeks ago, so I'm adjusting to have more time off. Work is going very well, I think, and I've settled in nicely. It's different every day, it seems, which keeps me focused while also challenging me. How is your study program going? Are you learning a lot of new things?"
"More time off to spend with anyone in particular, or simply to enjoy a few more good books?" He raised an eyebrow and leant back, replacing the menu after a moment more and waiting until Hermione was done before indicating the waiter to join them.
"The vegetarian Canneloni, please," he said, "And a bottle of sparkling water." He glanced towards Hermione, considering her last questions.
"I'm learning huge amounts," he told her. "And discovering that despite my best efforts, there's still so much I don't know. History is like that; it's always being made. Did you know they made a pact in China just two weeks ago to stop the export of dragon products? Two weeks ago." He leant back. "It's constant."
