Date: Sunday, April 21, 1999 Characters: Cho Chang, Kevin Entwhistle Location: Three Broomsticks, Hogsmeade Status: Semi-Public Summary: Kevin and Cho take a stroll through Hogsmeade. Completion: Complete
Kevin almost ran all the way to the Three Broomsticks, afraid he was late to his meeting with Cho. Stopping to catch his breath, he opened the door and looked around, his face lighting up as he saw her. "I'm sorry I'm a bit late. I had something to finish for tomorrow.." he said apologetically.
Cho looked up when she heard the door open and smiled when she saw him. “Hullo, Kevin. No worries, you weren’t late. I haven’t been here long myself.” He looked rushed as he mentioned he had been working. She hoped she wasn’t taking him away from something important but he did look happy to be here so maybe he needed the break. “I’m glad you’re able to meet me today.”
Kevin chuckled. "So am I. I needed to get out for a while. It felt like the walls were closing in on me, really." he mentioned, smiling at Cho. He was blushing slightly, but he managed to keep most of his vitals on check whenever he met her now, so he figured he was doing better in the whole 'meeting people' department.
Cho grinned when he admitted the outing was a welcome one. She stood and walked up to him. “We’ve timed this well, then. Work is important but so is relaxation.” She had suspected he worked hard but was glad he believed in taking breaks when needed. She looked up and smiled, “I think getting out for a while will be a nice distraction before we get back to work tomorrow.”
Kevin rolled his eyes. "I do relax. I read reports and write my protocols in bet while I eat cookies. That counts." he told her, then he sighed as soon as he heard Cho talk about his brother. Of course she'd remember him..
"He's training to be an Auror. He's always been obsessed with anything school related, always had high standards, always trying to be the perfect one." Kevin said with a hint of irritation. It was obvious that the Entwhistle brothers were not really on good terms.
Cho smiled at Kevin’s idea of relaxation. Working in bed. But at least there were cookies. It sort of made her want to kidnap him for a day and not let him think about work. Not a good idea, though.
She noticed his sigh when she mentioned his brother and understood why when he spoke of him. It had to be hard living up to expectations set by an older brother. It might also explain why Kevin pushed himself so hard now. She remembered thinking back at school that Bradley had been as loud as Kevin had been quiet. “Are things better now, between you?”
"No they aren't." he simply answered, but after a moment he realised he might owe her some kind of explaination. "Or maybe they are. I don't know, we don't speak to one another. We've never had anything in common and to tell the truth, I don't mind."
His answer was no. Cho sighed as she imagined how hard that must be for him despite his comment about not caring. She reached out and touched his arm briefly. “I’m sorry, Kevin.” After a moment’s silence, she glanced up at him. “It’s his loss then.”
She realized she had been asking too many questions. She had just wanted to get to know him better but she kept making him talk about things he found uncomfortable. He would probably never want to talk to her again after this.
“Do you want to walk a little further or head back?”
"I sure hope so, because why learn something if it's not fun? That's the whole point of learning, right?" he asked her, winking as he smiled. Kevin shove his hands in his pockets again and sighed.
She smiled in agreement. “Yes, exactly. It’s such an amazing rush, discovering something new or figuring something out. How could someone not have fun learning something new?”
She was surprised to see they were already nearing the edge of town. They must have been walking for quite a while. “Should we turn back here?”
"That's what I've been trying to explain to people a while ago, I think some people just don't get it." he answered, shrugging. He nodded at Cho. "I think we should. I actually have to go back home to finish up something, but let me bring you back home.."
“Yeah, I should probably review a couple of chapters myself before tomorrow.” As they headed back, she looked over at him and smiled, “Thanks, for coming out with me today. We live on the same street but never run into each other, so this was nice.”
