Date: Sunday, April 21, 1999 Characters: Cho Chang, Kevin Entwhistle Location: Three Broomsticks, Hogsmeade Status: Semi-Public Summary: Kevin and Cho take a stroll through Hogsmeade. Completion: Complete
Kevin almost ran all the way to the Three Broomsticks, afraid he was late to his meeting with Cho. Stopping to catch his breath, he opened the door and looked around, his face lighting up as he saw her. "I'm sorry I'm a bit late. I had something to finish for tomorrow.." he said apologetically.
Cho looked up when she heard the door open and smiled when she saw him. “Hullo, Kevin. No worries, you weren’t late. I haven’t been here long myself.” He looked rushed as he mentioned he had been working. She hoped she wasn’t taking him away from something important but he did look happy to be here so maybe he needed the break. “I’m glad you’re able to meet me today.”
Kevin chuckled. "So am I. I needed to get out for a while. It felt like the walls were closing in on me, really." he mentioned, smiling at Cho. He was blushing slightly, but he managed to keep most of his vitals on check whenever he met her now, so he figured he was doing better in the whole 'meeting people' department.
Cho grinned when he admitted the outing was a welcome one. She stood and walked up to him. “We’ve timed this well, then. Work is important but so is relaxation.” She had suspected he worked hard but was glad he believed in taking breaks when needed. She looked up and smiled, “I think getting out for a while will be a nice distraction before we get back to work tomorrow.”
"I think so too. Life is short, I realise that. I'll make the most out of mine." he answered, smiling at Cho as she came towards him. "Shall we?" he asked her motioning to the door and walking to it to open for her.
“I like the way you think, Kevin.” She couldn’t believe this was the Kevin Entwhistle who had barely spoken a word to her at school. He seemed much more confident now and was, well, downright charming. She was glad he felt more comfortable these days. “Thank you,” she smiled as she walked through the opened door.
“Any direction, or is there somewhere you would like to go?”
"I don't really have anything in mind. I was mostly thinking of some mindless roaming around the streets because I don't feel like thinking." Some days it felt like it was all he ever did, think. Thinking of everything and never doing anything.
“Sounds perfect.” Some of the best walks were ones done without a destination in mind. She had found some lovely cafes and bookshops that way. She glanced over at him as they began walking. “The past few weeks have been busy ones, haven’t they? You've had a lot of changes with a new job and moving. Have you settled into your new place?”
Nodding, kevin looked back at Cho. "Yes, I have. It's nice to finally have my own home even if I share it. But Millie and Tracey are really nice and so far it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun."
She smiled when he said things were going well. “I’m glad. I like them both.” She barely saw Millie in passing at work and she needed to return to Utopia soon to catch up with Tracey. She thought back to something he had said at the bookstore. “Was your family okay with you moving out?”
"Oh, Mum understood why I needed to move out." he answered, remembering how things had happened. Of course, Mrs Entwhistle understood but it hadn't made it any easier for her to see her babyboy leave home. "It's just a bit hard for her though. She keeps owling me."
She listened as he talked about his mum. “That’s good, that she understands. It’s still hard to let go sometimes even when we know we should.” She tried to imagine having a child ready to leave home, and thought she might react the same way. She grinned a little sheepishly, “I owled my parents this morning.”
Kevin chuckled and looked over at Cho. "Well, I answer her everytime she owls, if that counts. Though the time between each of them if quite short and nothing much happens so there isn't much to say in the first place anyway."
“I’m sure she appreciates that, Kevin. Sometimes just a quick note telling her you’re okay is enough to put her mind at ease.” That’s usually all it took with her parents. They still worried about her but they had grown a little less inquisitive recently.
The shops in Hogsmeade seemed to be doing good business for a Sunday. Probably, everyone wanted to be outside enjoying the sunshine. “This sort of reminds me of Hogsmeade weekends when we were at school. I was fascinated with this village. It seems odd that I live here now but still haven’t been to all the different shops.”
Kevin smiled and looked around, an affectionate warmth spreading all over him. "I always lived here. My parents wanted somewhere safe and quiet to raise their children so.. so they chose Hogsmeade, but whenever we had weekends with school it was still special. It was like going home once in a while."
She listened to him talk about growing up in Hogsmeade, smiling as she imagined him as a little boy. “That must have been nice, living here as a child. I know when I was homesick for Glasgow, a trip here reminded me of home.” Her Scottish accent had faded over the years, but became slightly noticeable when she mentioned Glasgow. She walked along the familiar streets, happy with her decision to relocate here. “I considered moving to Diagon Alley when I was looking for a flat to let. Thought I would just work and live in London, you know.” She smiled ruefully, “The prices were too high, of course, but it didn’t feel right either, not living in Scotland.”
