Characters: Susan Bones, Cormac McLaggen, Ministry of Magic Human Resources Department, Mr Clarke, Susannah Bones
Location: Hogsmeade
Status: Private
Summary: Susan recieves her NEWT scores and sends a few owls
Completion: Incomplete
Susan folded up the paper with a slow exhalation and then turned and sorted through her owls, wondering where they'd all come from. She'd purposefully left them all to one side, trying to calm herself from the seed is fear regarding her scores as she read through the paper, but now she sifted through the envelopes before deciding to open the one containing her NEWT scores first. It might make it easier to read the one from her mother, and besides, she'd been panicking about it for weeks now, and really needed to know that it was all alright.
Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests Results
Pass Grades:
Outstanding (O)
Exceeds Expectations (E)
Acceptable (A)
Fail Grades:
Poor (P)
Dreadful (D)
Troll (T)
Susan Amelia Bones has achieved:
Defence Against the Dark Arts: E
Charms: A
Transfiguration: A
Muggle Studies: P
A poor in Muggle Studies. Well, considering how awful the test had been, Susan couldn't be surprised. The E in Defence was a relief though; it meant she stood a chance of being allowed into the Hit Witch program, just as he wanted. She opened the letter from her mother and looked in at it.
Dearest Susan,
We'll be coming home next weekend, and hope to see you. Don't be a stranger, darling, you know that we love you very much.
Lots of love,
your mother
Susan looked at the parchment warily. It didn't make sense. They were coming home? They loved her very much? It was so out of character; if she didn't know that Voldemort had been defeated, she'd have worried about them. Then again, with what she'd read in the paper this morning, she had to wonder what to believe. What if some of things that they said about the Ministry were true after all? Maybe there was a different kind of subversion going on, and this odd letter was just an early sign of it. She had to be careful if she didn't want to end up like her Aunt, after all.
Biting her lip, Susan read the letter a few more times to try and work out what to do. Her parents were adventurers - they spent all their time living off the inheritance money that grandad had left her father. Why would they be coming home? After she'd reached school age, they'd shown no interest in seeing her grow up. It had been as though they'd finally managed to get rid of her. Her aunt and her brother had more or less raised her. So why now, when she was finally a free adult, were they suddenly showing interest? It wasn't right.
Maybe it was time to pen her letters now, before she chickened out of it?

Dear Cormac,
How are you doing? You owe me a visit to a Muggle cinema, and about two tons of confectionary. I got my NEWT results today, one E and two As. I'm sure you did much better. Is your House Elf still not letting you see me? Write back soon asking me out on a date, or so help me, I'll come round there and proove that my Charmwork deserved an Outstanding mark after all.
Lots of love,
Susan

Dear mother,
I'll certainly come home and visit. It'll be nice to see you again.

To whom it may concern, of the Human Resources Department
Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Susan Amelia Bones. I am participating in the internship at the Ministry of Magic, with the interest of joining the Hit Witch program in Law Enforcement. I am a driven individual with great aspirations towards a Ministry career. As such, I've included a copy of my NEWT results. If you have any questions, my superior at the Ministry would be pleased to provide reference, as would my head of house, Professor Sprout.
Yours faithfully,
S.A.Bones

Dear Mr. Clarke,
I realise you're a very busy man. I'm one of the ex-NEWT students who rented your housing last year. I'm looking for a flat, hopefully in Hogsmeade; perhaps you would be able to help me? I'm still not sure if I'm going to get the job I'm after, as I only sent off my application today, but if you could consider me for housing, I would truly appreciate it.
Yours gratefully,
Susan Bones
