Characters: Shelby Fawcett, anyone?

Summary: Shelby reads the paper.
Completion: Incomplete

Shelby spied a copy of Sunday's edition of the Prophet on one of the end tables in the common room anfter lunch. Snatching it up, she began reading it methodically, from front to back. She generally didn't give two knuts about the world at large, but if she wanted a job in a few months, she needed to be a bit more in tune. She got to Rita's article, and after finishing the paper, re-read it again.

Hmm. Interesting. Shelby didn't see why what people got up to in the privacy of their own home would matter to anyone besides them, but then again, she was a minority in her preferences for solitude and privacy. Pride pins seemed a bit excessive, like slapping a target on your back for people to know who or what to harass you about. But the Magical Equity organization, well, that was another story. It was the kind of connection she could use, given how little 'equity' she'd had at home. Try none at all. And while Gregory had a point, that she'd never feared for her life, she certainly knew what it meant to be put upon by authority.

Given how much she wanted to land on her feet post-NEWTs, this sort of knowledge would only help. She had an idea, and pulling some parchment from her school bag, she set down the apple she'd been munching on and began writing, smiling in triumph. If her parents thought she'd come crawling back, they were wrong.
