Katie cricked her neck as she stepped away from the punching bag. Wayne had finished her attic gym on Tuesday and it was amazing. She could climb up whenever she wanted to escape from the world. She could spent hours working out, just one with the bag. Unfortunately, she was working out a bit too much, and her muscles were starting to protest. With a sigh she extended the ladder and climbed down, heading for the shower. The hot water and steam helped a bit, but she really needed a potion ( ... )

Alicia grinned wide at Katie before she caught herself, remembering they hadn't talked in weeks because Katie thought her a hussy. Well. She pushed her bangs out of her face nervously. "Hey, Katie, what's up?" she asked feebly.

While she'd been sick the last week, she kept thinking about how she could talk to Katie again to make things right, but Alicia found it hard to think about apologizing, when they had both been in the wrong, at least a little. So they simply hadn't talked.

Katie felt as nervous as Al looked. "Um, nothing really. Just getting some pain potion. For my muscles. Been hitting the punching bag a bit too hard lately," she rambled.

Katie bit her lip. She'd not seen Al in a few weeks since their bust up, and she missed her friend. Leanne was her best mate, but Lee was in Omagh, and Al was right here - they'd been so close for so long, that it was silly to let an argument come between them.

"Look Al, I'm really sorry about what I said, and especially about how I said it. It's not fair for me to tell you who you can and can't date, and I shouldn't have stuck my nose in your business. I was wrong."

"Oh, your own punching bag? Brilliant," Alicia grinned a bit.

She let out a breath when Katie apologized. "It's okay, Kate, I- well, I still don't agree, but I understand. And I'm sorry for kind of kicking you while you were down. You don't deserve that."

She stood there awkwardly for a moment, not sure if she should hug Katie or what. She felt the lingering frustration with her, but it wasn't enough to not make up with her. Like she'd told Angelina, she lost a friend already- she was going to do what she could to not let it happen again. She shrugged a little at Katie. "We're okay?" Missed you.

"Yeah, well since I'm not going 'round to Flint's anymore, I figured I needed one of my own," she said.

Katie shook her head. "I think I was projecting a bit - things with Terry had kinda messed me up, and that sort of coloured what I was saying. I really hope you and Ollie work out. I do," she said, happy that she finally meant it.

There was a bit of an awkward silence, and then Al asked if they were okay. Katie rolled her eyes. "Better than. Oh come here, you daft bint," she said affectionately and pulled Al into a tight hug.

"Thanks," Alicia said, looking down. She wasn't sure where it would go with Oliver. She hoped it worked out, obviously, but it was too soon to say anything without worrying about jinxing it. "I hope so too. I just- had to give us a chance, you know? I didn't want to always think, 'what if.' I'd drive me nuts."

She laughed happily when Katie called her a bint and hugged her. Katie was always a little better at that hugging thing than she was, but Alicia hugged back tightly. "You might not want to hug me too much. I'm nursing a horrible cold. I blame the little monsters I work with," she said, pulling back.

"So, uh, what are you up to after this?" Alicia wasn't feeling 100%, but catching up with Katie sounded a hell of a lot better than changing into her sweats and moping on the couch... again.

"Yeah, it probably would. We've got too many 'what ifs' in life already from the past year. Besides, someone's got to be happy," she said with a little smile. "I reckon I've been miserable enough for the lot of us lately."

Katie pulled away slightly, shaking her head. "I guess that means we're skipping the traditional make-up shag, then. Pity," she said with a sigh.

Katie grinned when Al asked her what she was up to. "I am up to junk food and girl talk. And I wish we could have electricity in Hogsmeade and then we could watch videos with cute boys in them. But since we don't, we can look at the moving pictures in Witch Weekly or something," she said with a shrug. "Oh! And, if you come over to mine, you can see the fabulous job Wayne did with my room. And my workout area."

"Yes, exactly. Thanks for understanding," Alicia said, nodding a little.

She laughed loudly. "Guess so. Besides, I have a certain neighbor that would either be disappointed that it happened or disappointed he couldn't watch- and since we both care about him so much..." she trailed off, laughing a bit still.

Alicia was beyond happy that Katie seemed just as ready to move past this as she was. "That is too bad," she agreed, and decided not to mention the Witch Weekly that Oliver had sent her as a joke. She'd try not to talk much about him for now. "That's great! I'd love to see it. He really helped me put mine together," Alicia said. "Let me just make these purchases. Did you have to do anything else in London?"

Katie laughed along with Al, although she felt a bit uncomfortable about the idea of Oliver thinking about that. She didn't know why, but it bothered her. She shook it off, determined not to let it ruin her evening. She'd just made up with Al, so she wasn't going to let any weirdness come between them tonight.

"Yeah, he's got a great eye," she said. "I'll just buy this potion. Maybe we should pop over to the Muggle side and pick up some snackies before we go back to Hogsmeade? I think my supplies are a bit low - Terry and I had a talk last week and it's over. Not that it wasn't over before, but we're not going to get back together. Ever," she said.

"That's fine," Alicia nodded, handing her items to the clerk to purchase them. "I'll have to get rid of these robes first, though, you know. So that's why the sweets are gone?" she asked, her tone lightly teasing even while she tried not to frown. Katie was so hung up on this boy, it seemed. Why did they need to talk about it again? Alicia shrugged inwardly, she guessed she needed to hear more of the story- if Katie wanted to talk about it.

She also tried not to say that she was happy Katie wasn't getting back together with Terry- they usually didn't deserve a second chance, ex-boyfriends- as far as Alicia was concerned. Not that she really had any ex-boyfriends.

She said thank you to the clerk and darted into the restroom while Katie bought her potion so she could take her dress robes off and shrink them along with her purchases, stuffing them in her bag. She came back out a moment later. "Ready?"

"Of course," Katie said. "Yeah, I sorta hit the sweets and then hit the punching bag. I think they balanced each other out in the end, actually."

She made her purchase and then waited for Al to come back. They headed out of the shop and down towards the Leaky Cauldron. "I'll need to check my mobile - my dad's probably left me some messages, and I always forget to turn it on when I go to the Ministry," she said, looking in her handbag to make sure she had it. "Alright, let's hit the nearest Tesco's and then apparate back. It's bloody cold out."

Alicia pretended to look Katie up and down and then nodded approvingly. "I fail to see any major changes," she grinned.

They headed out through the Leaky Cauldron, Alicia nodding along. "Sounds good. I can not very well wear my cloak out here," she said with a slight grin. It was one of the only wizarding fashions she had really grown fond of- she told herself it was not because she felt like she was wearing a cape. They found their way to the store and Alicia basked in the feeling of the recycled warm air that felt much different than wizarding warming charms.

"Feel like I havent been in one of these in ages. Lead the way," she murmured.

Katie struck a pose as Al looked her up and down. "Fabulous, dahling," she said in her best posh accent.

They entered the Tesco's and Katie sighed with relief as the heat engulfed her. She looked over and grinned as she saw Alicia doing the same thing. "You're missing out. The wizarding world is good for loads, but nothing quite beats Muggle snacks when you need a fix," she said, making a beeline for the snack aisle.

Soon their arms were piled high with crisps, sodas and chocolates.

"Oh!" Katie said suddenly, nearly dropping her load. "I almost forgot to pick up my messages. Can you check out?" She asked Al, dumping her pile onto the counter. She fished her Muggle credit card out of her wallet and handed it to Alicia. "Just put it on that, yeah?"

"Oh, yeah, sure," Alicia said, placing her items on the counter as well and accepting Katie's card. "I'll pay next time- I just don't have any money. With me," she corrected, looking at the clerk.

She watched Katie go to check her message, shrugging a bit as the clerk rang up their purchases and bagged them. After paying for the food, she caught up with Katie. "Anything important?" she asked when Katie was done on the phone.

Katie shook her head and turned her mobile off, putting it back in her purse.

"Just Dad. He wants to know when I'm coming home for the holidays; how long I'll be staying - that sort of thing," she explained with a sigh. "I don't know, I was hoping to put it off this year - deciding, I mean. I thought it'd be nice to stay in Hogsmeade for Christmas with everyone around, but I 'spect everyone else'll be going home too. I love my parents, it's just I don't have a lot to talk to them about. They don't really understand Wizarding stuff, and I don't know all the Muggle things they go on about - like the Royals or politicians. It's alright when we're just meeting up for an afternoon or lunch here and there, but to spend a week or more with them? It's just not going to work."

Alicia nodded and handed her the card.

"You're an adult now, though, right? Would your internship even allow you to stay with them for so long? Maybe you can come up with some sort of compromise." She smiled sympathetically. It was hard there with her mum for a while, but since it was just her mum, it was easier to have her understand Alicia's separation from the Muggle society.

"It's coming up fast though, isn't it? I can't believe it's the Christmas season already. It's like that summer passed by without me noticing and now all of a sudden its cold and there are lots of gifts to buy."
