Reed Bradley wasn't particularly vain but he thought he was good looking enough bloke. He didn't think he was handsome, like his best mate Basil, but he was decent enough. He knew he could be friendly. He certainly spoke to enough people. Why then was it so bloody hard to find a date for the Autumn Ball? Or to be more specific, a date for the Autumn Ball that didn't expect the date to come with a full blown relationship? You'd think from the way the birds were acting the Autumn Ball was being held on Noah's Ark instead of at The Morgana.

He planned to ask Gemma Newton, a studious, cute girl he sometimes chatted and studied with in the library. She was Slytherin, but he never cared much about houses as long as the person got along. Unfortunately, everytime he approached Gemma her friends closed ranks, keeping him from getting close to her. RB heard earlier that she now had a date with a friend's older brother. Pureblood older brother. RB wasn't going to cry about it. It wasn't as if he'd wanted to marry her or anything.

His best mate Basil's girlfriend, Bridget, had offered to fix him up and even offered a couple of choices. According to Bridget, two of her dorm mates, Gwen Robinson and Abby Kellaway, both 'thought he was cute'. That didn't sound so bad until he learned that meant that they both wouldn't mind being his girlfriend. RB didn't want a girlfriend; he wanted a Ball date. Unfortunately, RB already knew that Bridget's two other dorm mates, Sarah and Erica, who would have been willing to go as friends had already been snatched up by two of their male Hufflepuff Quidditch Team mates. Luna might have been willing to go with him as a friend, but she already had a date, as did Abigail, and the two other Ravenclaw Seventh Years Shelby and Edith weren't very cheerful. He'd rather go alone than with a stick in the mud.

He thought he might try Demelza or one of the other Gryff's but he really didn't know if any of the Gryff girls were stuck on pairing up as a couple instead of friends. What RB really wanted was enough nerve to ask Mandy Brocklehurst. He'd been brave enough to ask girls in his year, but RB knew he wasn't brave enough to ask Mandy, although he did hope he'd have bollocks enough to at least ask her for a dance tonight.

He still hadn't had a date when the pretty Mrs. Weasley came to Hogwarts this morning along with the other volunteers to apparate the muggleborns home. She had stayed for a few minutes to chat with his mum like she always did, and when she turned to leave, she asked him to spare a dance for her this evening. At least he hadn't been drooling when he stammered out a reply. If nothing else, dancing with the gorgeous wife of a Hogwarts Professor ought to earn him cool points with the blokes.

RB's mum had made sure his tuxedo was cleaned and pressed. His dad worked for Her Majesty's Government and frequently hosted parties that RB had to attend in tuxedo, so owning his own made sense. Thankfully, this one he'd been allowed to pick out on his own. It was only a little more than a year old and RB loved it. It was probably a little trendy to wear among wizard's but Reed Burgess Bradley was muggleborn.

He wasn't going to lose any sleep over making anyone uncomfortable with his muggleness either.
