Ginny wearily made her way through the throng of people, feeling dazed. Her body felt heavy and she prayed to whatever god would listen that they'd not lost anyone else.
She stopped by the bodies and looked at Fred, reaching down to touch his face for a moment. He shouldn't be that cold.
She heard her mum's voice and then her dad's... and when she finally pulled herself away from Fred, two more redheads had joined them. She walked up slowly, as if mired down, and watched as they hugged. She didn't think her voice would work properly, so she just waited until they were done.
Arthur turned to the sight of red hair out of the corner of his eye.
Ginny stood looking so broken, all of her fight gone. Arthur ran over to her, lifting her up in his embrace. He finally set her down, refusing to let her go completely as he peppered her head with kisses, each one cementing her safety in his head.
"My girl, my little girl, my beautiful little girl. I'm so sorry Ginny, Merlin I'm sorry."
And then her father's arms were around her and his robes were soft against her cheek and she fisted her hands in his robes and held on tight, squeezing her eyes shut against the threatening sobs.
Her throat hurt so very badly.
She shook her head, meaning for him not to be sorry, it wasn't his fault. Nothing was their faults but she couldn't say anything just then so she just hugged him and pressed her face harder against his chest as he kissed her hair over and over.
"Me too," she managed, but it was weak and brittle, on the tail end of a half sob. "Me too, Daddy."
Arthur put his head against hers, trying to cover her from all the horrors, knowing it was too late to do so.
"No, you never be sorry. You...you have done more than any person should have to do, you understand me? You are so much like your mother...Merlin Ginny I'm just..I love you ok? I love you."
Molly looked over and saw Arthur with Ginny and knew her husband was going to break down soon. She moved next to him, and kissed his forehead and then drew Ginny into her arms. She looked at Arthur over the top of Ginny's head and motioned for him to go and sit. He needed a break and she knew he didn't want to lose control completely in front of the children.
"Your father and I are so proud of you," She whispered as she stroked Ginny's hair. "We just want you safe. When I saw Bellatrix..." Her voice broke and some of the rage she had felt during the duel overcame her again. She took a deep breath. "When I saw her aim that curse at you, I was so scared, Ginny, I was so scared of losing you. You're my baby."
She lifted Ginny's face to hers so she can look her in eyes.
"I will do everything to protect you and your brothers. I will kill again if I have to. But I will not lose any more of my children," she said fiercely.
Her fingers were clenched so tightly into dad's robes that it was painful to let go. But mum was pulling her against her chest and though her fingers ached she finally went, laying her head against her shoulder and closing her eyes.
She nodded mutely as mum talked about being scared. She'd been scared too, but not about dying. She'd never been afraid of that.
Mum took her face and lifted it and Ginny let her, but wished she wouldn't. It was easier with her face hidden. "You're not going to lose me," she said quietly, her voice shaking and strained. Her face was wet, but she didn't consciously remember the tears falling. "I want to take Fred home. Where is Bill and Charlie and George? Are they all right?"
Percy waited as Ginny embraced Dad, and then Mum. They had barely had time to glance at each other in the Room of Requirement, and now here she was. All grown up, and battleworn, and he just wanted to hold her and tell her things that would make her feel better. He had been good finding the right words, when Gin fell off her toy broomstick or was fuming about some trick the twins had pulled, or something little Ronnie had thoughtlessly said about what girls could or couldn't do.
Ginny was the only one of Percy's siblings who actually let him play the big brother more than once or twice in their lives. He had loved her for it, every single time.
There were no words now. Nothing that would make her feel better. He wasn't even sure if he had the right to try. He opened his mouth, but all he managed was - "Gin."
Gin looked away from her mother's face at the sound of Percy's voice. She stared at him. Exhaustion was taking it's toll and she was too weary and hurt to be angry at him at the moment. "Perce," she said, and god, her voice sounded as if she'd been swallowing glass. His name was almost unrecognizable.
She cleared her throat and tried again, wincing slightly. "Percy. The others? Did you see them? Are they okay?" Please, oh please, someone say they were okay.
Percy looked around for Ron, but he had been swallowed by the crowd again. "Ron was here a minute ago. I haven't seen the others." He managed not to say "they'll be fine." She had every reason to be scared.
"I'll look for them," he said finally. "It's crazy around here - but someone will have seen them."
Ginny looked like a little frozen statue, still holding on to Mum. Percy wanted to hug her, but didn't dare. There was a quiet anger in her face that he wasn't ready to deal with yet. "I'll find them," he promised her.
She nodded absently. Someone had seen them. Where were they now? She wanted to see for herself that they were alive and whole and her eyes slid over to Fred and she nodded again.
"Thanks," she said quietly, still looking at Fred.

That, at least, he could do.
