Stephen tapped his wand to the Christmas tree and the lights turned on. The evening’s dinner had been ordered from Circe, and it was arranged on the counter. He pulled two plain glasses from the cupboard. Earlier, he’d picked up a bottle of champagne, and the clerk assured him it was excellent. Would it still be excellent in regular glasses? He didn’t even know if Cho even liked champagne.
Stephen rubbed the back of his neck. He’d also bought candles. He thought he’d light them and turn off the lights. He and Cho could have a romantic dinner. Didn’t women like that sort of thing? Was it too much? Would Cho laugh?
Her present was the only thing under his Christmas tree, and he was also unsure about that as well. He’d spent many weeks trying to paint something for her. He wanted to show her how much he had appreciated her gift, but what if she thought it was ridiculous?
Stop it, Cornfoot. You’re over thinking everything. Just light the damn candles and be done with it.
He sighed, lit the candles, and watched the lights flicker on the tree. Cho would be there any minute. The worst that could happen was that she’d laugh at the candles, she’d hate the champagne, and she’d think his painting was painted by a Hippogriff. He stood up with the intention of tossing the gift in the rubbish bin, but there was a knock at the door.
