A bloke turned twenty only once in his life, but for Terry Boot it seemed his twentieth birthday celebration just kept going and going and going. First there had been a fun
Friday evening at Utopia which, while unrelated to his birthday, set an upbeat mood for the weekend. On Sunday, Lisa had taken him on a
surprise trip to York and then Redcar, and what started as a lovely day, despite the rain, ended up being bloody amazing. Terry still found himself grinning, days later, at the memory of that day. Monday night, his actual birthday, he'd gone to visit his family in Bristol; that dinner was full of laughter and happiness, which was a marked contrast to a similar visit
a year ago. Tuesday night he'd gone to Angelina's birthday party, which was very pleasant. Even work was going well; he'd helped with a complicated reversal in the Elephant and Castle section of London, and he'd done so well Sibley had complimented him in front of Lisa's mentor, Hardy. He'd hoped he'd not been blushing too hard while Lisa beamed at him.
On Monday Anthony had
owled Terry a birthday gift, which reminded him that he'd not made plans yet to celebrate with all of his best mates. He and Goldstein had settled on meeting at the Limping Thestral at half-eight tonight, which he'd passed along to Lisa, Michael and Greg, who wasn't one of Terry's best mates but was one of his housemates, and a good bloke. Maybe Luna would come along as well. He also figured that Michael would bring Parvati along; those two seemed very lovey-dovey lately, and Terry liked Parvati. Anthony planned to come alone; Terry just hoped that wouldn't be too much of a downer for him. He'd make a point to be discreet with Lisa and not snog (much) in front of Goldstein.
Before the get-together, Terry and Lisa had gone for a light dinner at Calliope's Cafe so they could spend some time alone before the gathering. The weather had improved dramatically in the past few days, so when they finished their meal they strolled through Diagon Alley and then into Knockturn Alley to reach the pub. It seemed to be a typical Saturday night at the Limping Thestral, which was already crowded.
