I wonder what this film will or won't change for people's personal fanons.

I wonder what people's personal fanons are with regard to our Navyboys.

Does James bite his nails, does Andrew Gillette snark at anyone that annoys him, is Theo a total slut!bunny? (The answer to all three is yes, btw XD) Tell me about your fanon, ask others about their ( Read more... )

James Norrington is a younger son of a less than wealthy family who preferred to forge his own path in the Navy than have his father purchase a commission in the cavalry or infantry for him. He is a man who makes his judgments based on merit, hence keeping the pert Groves and insolent Gillette at his side.

He finds it easier to be straightforward in conversation and finds it difficult to speak of light and frivolous topics such as the weather. This has led to many enjoyable debates with any number of people, and drew him to Elizabeth, who challenged his worldview frequently, in spite of her gender.

He bites his nails when nervous, and he is nervous more of social occasions than of cannonfire. He would much rather spend an evening reading or playing whist with the other officers than dancing attendance at a soiree.

I definitely put him as a younger son. It explains why he's so devoted to duty and proving himself, either that he's capable or that he's more than a rich boy who thought being a sailor would be fun ( ... )

I definitely see him worrying if he is worthy of love - and that making him nervous and tongue tied and all stammery.

I may fic that meeting with the suitor - Magpie rolling her eyes indulgently, and James being all, "he is unworthy of you - he did not even last five minutes in my study!" And Magpie scolding him, "You have to give them a chance, dearest." And Lark pouting and insisting that the boy be brought back for an informal dinner which terrifies him.

JamesMuse: "What? Me? Initiate? I would never do that!"
AndrewMuse *sarcastically*: "Nooooo never. Not once have I been seduced doing the accounts in my office. Oh, wait, yes I have because the Commodore is a horny bastard."
JamesMuse: "Does it bother you?"
AndrewMuse: "Never stop. If you do I will never speak to you again."

My James loves history. Arrian's Campaigns of Alexander is the one he reads most frequently, although the Odyssey is a close second.

I want a Norrington! Just not a figurine

...somewhat sarcastic and broody, but only because he isn't always comfortable sharing what he truly thinks/feels. Without the 'hat and wig' and after a drink or two he tends to be rather personable.

He's passionate and dedicated, in regards to both his duties and his friendships. I tend to think he proposed to Miss Swann only because he felt it was the right thing to do, and not that he actually wanted to. He does find her beautiful & interesting though, all the same.

I haven't really thought much about his past, per say, but what I have mentioned is that he is separated from his family and has not seen nor heard from them in quite some time, so Groves and Gillette have filled that gap for him, in my little universe anyways.

He's known Gillette longer than Groves. Groves gets on his nerves more than Gillette because he is more willing to question Norrington's motives.

My version of James Norrington is a man a questionable birth. Legally his parents are married and of the gentry, but the fact remains that James was born after his mother was raped and there has always been lingering doubts surrounding his paternity. James resembles his mother with nothing visually apparent from his father. Because of this his father has always shunned James. For a long time as a boy James tried to win his father's approval and affection. After learning about the tragic events prior to his birth, James comes to the realization that his father will never love him, there will always be whispers behind his back by people who know him, and people who take things from others are very bad indeed ( ... )
