so i realized today why they dont let seniors be TAs for management 100 (something i've been sad about all semester thus far)... want to know the answer that hit me on the head like a fluffy pillow?
seniors are LAZY.
that's it. that's my oh-so-brilliant conclusion. sad that it took me THREE MONTHS, eh?
the reason it came up - i'm sitting here in the computer lab, prepping for the help session i have to give for 2620. i'm looking through notes and going over practice exams... and not caring the slightest bit about it. after about a 30-second attempt to come up with questions i KNOW they'll ask tonight (to sound better-prepared when i have to answer them), i realized that i dont CARE enough to put in all this effort!!!! it's their job to learn the material. not mine to teach it to them. (compare this attitude to the drastically different one from the past 2 years when i practically killed myself before MGT100 exams to help tutor students.)
this one chick came to the help session last week, telling me she didn't understand ANY of the topics for the quiz. i was like, "did it make sense to you when you went to class, at least?" - you know, to look for something to bounce off of. her response: "oh, i dont go to class." well, NO WONDER YOU DONT GET IT. *sigh* i'm not saying she should come to class - that would be insanely hypocritical of me. i'm just saying she shouldn't EXPECT to understand everything if she's not in class to have it taught to her. and, she shouldn't ask me to teach it to her. that's not my job! (again, compare to attitude of last 2 years.)
so here i am, 13 minutes away from my help session, typing in my livejournal. and dreading 6pm. because i know i'm going to have a room full of people, looking (a) for me to teach them things they should already have leaned, (b) for me to explain concepts to them they dont understand , and/or (c) for reassurance that they already know the material.
i have no patience for peoples (a) and (c). unfortunately, there will only be about 3 (b)s in the room. the 20 others will just annoyingly take up my precious sunday night.
random subject change: our dsp VP-finance sent out an email to all the people who didnt pay dues (chris wray forwarded it to me, as i was not one of those people). in the email, she said that our central office didn't allow brothers to go on inactive status... which was a bold-faced lie!!! not only is it in our national bylaws to allow students to request inactive status (p. 12, in fact)... but it's also in our own chapter bylaws (word-for-word regurgitation of national bylaws) on page 4. PLUS, every brother that goes abroad is immediately put on inactive status, without even having to request it. i'm sort of saddened by our chapter's inability to live up to the standards it says it practices. if a brother requests inactive status, we should grant it, and not be totally wrapped up in maniacal thirst for money. you can't change the rules to make the game fit what you want.
