[communications] [Tina's hotel room]

Tina wasn't sure what had just happened with James, other than that she'd managed to destroy another perfectly nice movie-watching experience. She should just stop spending time with him. She knew that. It would be better for both of them. But she couldn't seem to stop responding to the need she saw in him, the same loneliness and frustration ( Read more... )

Tina,

That's wonderful news! I'd love to hear all about it.

And...yes, there was something else. Lunch sounds perfect. Are you free tomorrow?

Tomorrow would be great. Shall we meet somewhere?

There's a cafe on Main Street (or the Vulcan equivalent) - the one just across from the city hall. I've been meaning to try it out. Shall we meet there at 1300 tomorrow?

I think they have both indoor and outdoor seating, in case it's too hot outside for you and the baby.

That sounds ideal. I'll see you at 1300.

Tina,

You have a few minutes? I have a large pitcher of what tastes like strawberry lemonade but is blue here beside me, non-alcoholic, and the sun's perfect. My door's open.

Hey, sweetheart.

I hope the Starbase gets an actual name, soon, is all I'm going to say about that. I thought it must be getting close to time for this to happen! Good to know what's going on. I hope it won't be too boring on the space station. (What are space stations like, even?)

I don't think we're decided yet about what we're doing. It's all pretty confusing, frankly! But thanks for that about the station. It's a definite possibility. Maybe you'll have some familiar company on (dammit, the place needs a name!) the starbase. :)

We'll let you know!

Yeah, for reals. When I know the command staff there a little better, maybe I'll make some suggestions, if we're still stuck with "69" at that point.

Space stations are a lot like... Well, I was about to say moons, but you don't have a reference for that one, either, probably. They're pretty big - bigger than a starship - but still self-contained. It'll be a lot like shipboard life, except with more space, eventually with more people, and with less moving. Helpful description, huh?

That sounds...hmm. No, I really don't think I have anything I can compare it to, but I may go and research them now. :)

Tina,

Goddammit...

Okay. Yeah, we should talk.

You could theoretically go without another OB visit for another week or so, but if you wanted to get that out of the way before you leave, I'm available. Or, you might want to just have your new doc start fresh, as he or she will no doubt want to check you all out once you get there. Pretty much up to you.

If you have time, I'd just as soon get one more exam in with you, if you don't mind. I'm confident that my new boss will be great and all, but I don't know him yet. Or her. Whichever. See?

Anyway, my schedule is pretty much open. Just let me know what you have time for and where to meet you, and I'll be there.

I don't mind at all, you know that. How's tomorrow? At the Sha'Kwai Medical Facility?

That would be great. I'll let Jim know, so he can come along if he's free.

Roger indeed checked out Starbase 69. It was right up his alley, so much so that he was vexed that no one had mentioned it to him, until he looked in his pile of eternally unread messages (his kingdom for a research assistant) and saw that one of his former students had in fact sent him some details.

Cross-universal travel. Yes, this was of interest to his work.

Private to Christine Chapel,

What a coincidence! I recently received some information regarding that facility, and was getting ready to ask for some more specific details when I got your message.

When are you leaving?

I'm due there within ten days. So I'll be leaving pretty soon, though I haven't finalized any travel arrangements yet.

I probably don't have any information about the station that you don't, but I'm happy to share what details I have, if you'd like.

I've got someone looking into it.

Would it make you uncomfortable if I were to venture there to continue my research?

Well. This called for a lie if ever anything did. If she said it would, that would just make things awkward when he inevitably did show up. Tina had no illusions that Roger would ignore potential for furthering his research just because of one person's feelings, no matter who she was.

Besides, they'd gotten along fine so far, right? Right.

Private to Roger Korby:

Of course not.
