[sickbay - invasion of the bbs: open]

Jan 31, 2010 21:25

Most of the kids had agreed to come to sickbay with her with very little fuss, and Tina led them down corridors, into a turbolift, back out again, and then through the doors of sickbay at a brisk trot, all of them linking hands and being reminded every thirty seconds or so to "stay together, guys, okay ( Read more... )

When they all got to sickbay one of the nurses showed him where to go, and Chris climbed up and sat crosslegged on the end of the bed, looking around at all the doctors and nurses and the other kids who were getting examined. He didn't like the doctor's office very much, but this place didn't look at all like the doctor's he usually went to, and it was enough to make him interested instead of frightened.

George spotted Chris easily, and walked over to him. So weird, his kid was a kid and so was his lover. Obviously he'd be taking care of Chris for however long this lasted, so he'd better go make sure Chris was okay now.

"Hey Chris. I'm George."

Chris had been staring at the blinking lights and wavy lines above the bed across from his, so he was startled when someone said hello to him. It was an unfamiliar man with friendly blue eyes and blond hair. A lot of the nurses...well, like four of them...had blond hair. Maybe he was one, too, then. Or maybe a doctor.

"Hello," Chris said warily. "How do you know my name? Are you a nurse?"

"It's a long story," George admitted. "But I'm George, and a linguist, not a nurse. The nurses wear blue, like those two." George gestured towards the Chapels. "How are you feeling?"

He didn't really know how he was. Scared and confused and curious and excited all at the same time.

"...kind of cold," he told George instead. It was a body-feeling, not a feeling-feeling, but it was still a feeling.

"I think they make it cold in here so we don't stick around," George told Chris sagely. "Soon as a nurse or doctor checks you out, we can see about springing you and maybe going to call your Mama."

"Mama!" he said, face brightening. He forgot, for the moment, that he didn't call Mom 'Mama' very much anymore, because he was too old to and Charlie teased him sometimes when he did about being a baby even though she wasn't much older and she was a stupidhead.

Actually, he kind of wished she was here, too.

Then he remembered something - "But we're in space. Can we call her from space?"

"I'm a communications officer," George winked at him. "I think I can manage to arrange at least a short one." He'd see if anyone else absolutely needed to call their parents too. Short audio only transmissions shouldn't scare the kids too much and if the kids weren't panicking, things would probably run much smoother. Panicking kids just didn't seem like a good idea on the ship.

"Soon," Chris said imploringly, hugging his own knees. "Mom and Dad're gonna be worried that I disappeared. And I have to go to school tomorrow."

George wasn't sure what they were going to tell everyone. "Don't worry, your mom knows you're with me." Which wasn't a lie. Technically speaking. Mama Pike did know that Chris was with him.

Mom had told him that he wasn't to trust anyone he didn't know. But this guy said that Mom knew...and he was promising to let Chris comm her...

What else could he do but trust people, here on this strange ship? "They know I'm here? I'm not lost?" said Chris hopefully.

"You're just an unexpected visitor," George answered. "But yeah, they know you're here. Can you tell me the what you remember about getting here?"

Chris wrinkled his brow. "I was in the mudroom about to go outside. It was kinda dark inside so when I opened the door it was really bright out, and then I was just here. In the transporter place with all the lights. And I had diff'rent clothes on and stuff."

"Do you remember if you felt anything funny?" George questioned curiously. "Were you going to ride your horse?"

"I dunno if I felt anything funny," said Chris, wondering how this George knew they had horses. Maybe Mom told him. "I can't remember. I was just there, then here. But I was gonna feed the horses and help muck out their stalls and go riding later."
