[sickbay - invasion of the bbs: open]

Jan 31, 2010 21:25

Most of the kids had agreed to come to sickbay with her with very little fuss, and Tina led them down corridors, into a turbolift, back out again, and then through the doors of sickbay at a brisk trot, all of them linking hands and being reminded every thirty seconds or so to "stay together, guys, okay ( Read more... )

Pasha stared around sickbay with wide eyes. It was just all so shiny, so many things that could be touched by little finger and if she had her way many things that would be touched by little fingers. She stood by the edge of a biobed and watched what was going on around her. Everyone’s Mama’s and Papa’s seemed to be appearing to collect them, did that mean that Mama and Babushka were coming to find her?

Pasha curled her index finger in her mouth and bit down lightly, a comfort technique, that place looked safe enough but it wasn’t home and it had the same sterile hospital smell that all medical bays did.

"Hello again, Pasha," Tina said, walking up to the little girl where she was patiently waiting. "Are you ready to get your check-up?"

The little girl bobbed her head, she hadn’t really understood where they were going or why, but was that hopefully Mama would appear soon and everything would be alright. Her mind reeled as Tina spoke to her in standard, this was going to give her a headache. Chek-up? Or did the lady mean Chekov? “Nyet, Pasha Chekov. Not Chekup.”

Tina smiled ruefully. She should have seen that one coming - she'd have to get Nyota, or someone else who could speak Russian, down soon.

In the meantime... Well, hopefully she'd find ways to make her meaning clear. She started by lowering the biobed and quickly snagging a stool which she placed so that Pasha could climb up. She patted the surface of the bed. "Come on up here, Pasha Chekov."

"Verh?" Pasha confirmed as she clambered up the stool and onto the bed. She settled herself quickly and stared up at Tina, kicking her legs out from the edge of the bed. The girl had to crane her neck slightly to see Tina, Tall lady was tall, Pasha had decided.

[Translation: Verh? - Up?]

"Just right," Tina said, hoping that her tone of voice would convey what her words might not. She picked up a portable scanner and held it out for Pasha to look at. She turned the diagnostic screen towards the child and pointed the scanner at her own hand, clicking it on for a moment to make the screen light up with her own readings.

"I'm going to do this to you," she said, with some pointing back and forth between herself, the scanner, and Pasha. "Doesn't hurt."

“Scanner.” Pasha acknowledged. Mama had one of these and she had on occasion lent it from Mama and played Doctor with her toys with it. She gave Tina a smile and nodded to show she understood, mildly fascinated by the glow of the screen,

All of this nodding was going to give her a real big headache. “Does no hurt.”

"Good girl," Tina said, turning the scanner back around to take Pasha's readings. Just as M'Benga was finding with the de-aged Spock, Pasha was in perfect health. There was nothing wrong with her at all, aside from being a child.

"Okay," Tina said. "All done."

Now what?

She quickly uploaded the data to a PADD and then handed the scanner to Pasha. She couldn't hurt herself with it, and she was unlikely to damage it. And it might keep her entertained. "Stay here," Tina said, patting the bed firmly and making a stern face.

She would need to send a message to the acting captain, as soon as all the children had been checked out. What were they going to do with the kids who didn't have relatives on board?

Pasha giggled happily, easily enthralled with the scanner. It was shiny and made a funny noise when you waved it about. Shiny things were always good for amusement; the noise was just an added bonus ( ... )

When Tina glanced back around to check on Pasha, she saw the scanner sitting on the bed where the little girl should have been. Damnit.

She approached the bed, figuring that she might as well start her search at the last known location of the fugitive. "Pasha?" she called out. "Where are you?"

The girl grinned widely. The guards were after the great spy Pasha now. She imagined them chasing after her after she had taken back a precious bag of shiny things. Curling herself in, she tucked herself neatly behind a biobed, using her hand to cover her giggles. It was harder to stop laughing than she thought it would have been.

Aha! Giggling sounds. Tina tried a strategy that had often worked on kids she was babysitting.

"Paaaaaaasha," she said, with a sing-song tone. "I'm coming to fiiiiiind you."

She listened carefully, hoping the playful threat would make the giggles increase.

Pasha gave up on trying to cover up her giggles with her hands.

This game was fun!

She crawled further along the floor to evade capture, laughing all the while.

Excellent. Tina walked slowly, tracking the girl by ear. Luckily, there wasn't any activity at the moment in this area of sickbay to distract either of them.

Pretty soon, she was standing on one side of a biobed, looking over it to see the top of Pasha's head as she crouched in the cover of the other side, looking in entirely the wrong direction for Tina's approach. Quickly, Tina slipped around one end of the bed and dropped down to her knees, reaching out to grab Pasha around the middle.

She tickled her ribs gently. "Got you!"

The girl bubbled with laughter and spun around to face her captor. She hadn’t been expecting anyone to get her from behind. Her small arms circled one of Tina's own as Pasha grinned and proclaimed "Nyet, got you!"
