Being in a leadership position for a singing group is tough, especially when people decide to be divas. I don't really know what to tell you, except that I feel your pain.
I know what you mean... we had some of these group-dynamic issues in Madrigals a couple of years ago (as Zoe likely remembers) and it was really hard sometimes for me to get motivated for rehearsals. The two things that helped me some -- 1) really organizing/taking control of rehearsal flow (few things are more frustrating than the "figuring out when to quiet people down," so eventually I stopped trying to figure out the right time and just did it). In fact, I think that this was part of what made last year in Mads more enjoyable; there was a higher level of organization/control coming in from the co-directors, which created a better rehearsal environment. 2) Using the music to help get me back into enjoying the rehearsal, rather than letting the rehearsal sap the joy out of the music-making. I know this one is more easily said than done
