Ahhhh.... Coffee shop happiness

I'm sitting in this new coffee shop in Columbia. I had a yummy egg and cheese sandwich followed by a chai tea, and I am enjoying the peace and quiet before I go run errands. Both kids are in school and I have several hours to myself. Hence the extravagant breakfast all by myself at Anna's Coffee Roastery. This could be habit forming.

Saturday was my friend Mike's birthday. He lives an hour and a half away, which seems far, but compared to when he lived in NC, it's downright convenient. I didn't know what to get him for his birthday, but walking down my street to visit some yard sales, I found a four leaf clover! Serendipity.

The party itself was a lot of fun, even though our kids were the noisy ones running through the house and popping balloons. The weather was gorgeous, especially after all the rain we had last week, and I enjoyed having another chance to hang out with my friends.

Yesterday we dropped the kids off at my parents' house and Jeremy and I went back to the Renaissance Festival. I thought it would be more crowded, but it never got too busy. I likeg going with my kids, especially now that they are past the diaper/stroller stage and can enjoy the shows and browsing the shops, but it is also fun to go with my husband and be more laid back and wandery. (Spell check hates me when I make up words like that. Too bad. It's my journal, and both readers will have to put up with it. :P )
We visited the game store and chatted with the owner and her son. She taught us how to play 9 Men Morris, which is like Tic-Tac-Toe on steroids. We bought that game, and another that we thought the kids would like.

Our shopping goal was to find Jeremy a new pair of boots. We figure the boots he has are about 12 years old. He couldn't make up his mind which style he liked better, and while I found some that fit, and people said they looked good, I didn't like them enough for how much they cost. So instead I bought a pair of Medieval Moccasins that were much more affordable, very comfortable, and matched my new garb very well. (if I remember, I'll post a pic here later.) I tried on an outfit at the Miles Tonne leather shop. They make the most beautiful leather cloaks and capes, but even at my most extravagant, I can't justify $1300 for one. Then I made the fatal error of going to Potomac Leather. They had a dark brown long vest coat. The top is a close-fitting vest, and it has ankle-length panels attatched. Unlike the Miles Tonne outfit, it fit me perfectly, and I was weak. I think I will make an underskirt to wear with it, and a blouse. As I was trying it on, I could hear thunder. Even though we left right after buying the vest, we got hosed on the way to the car. This is the second weekend in a row I had to miss the London Broil's improv show they do at the end of the day. Oh well. At least I can listen to their pod cast. (I'm saving them for when I'm in the hospital.)

I have enjoyed sitting here and posting from the coffee shop, but now it's time to start my day!
