Farewell to Tom, Keri and Joe.
Nearly miss the plane thanks to the DIA security check system. Succeed only by cutting to front of line at time of boarding. My checked bag still is nowhere to be found. United is not answering their phones very quickly either . . . .
Sparks Rib Fest 2004. This is culture in Sparks. Butch's Super Pyro BBQ (from Iowa) sauce definitely got my attention. Joe Diffie's band playing "Behind Closed Doors." The height of culture and people watching. I understand Washoe County ranks very high on the density of obese and uneducated people. There were a lot of Bush Cheney 2004 stickers in view. On the same people. One BBQ stand from Texas featured the piggishly obese owner posing with "W" hisself on its billboard.
Brett picked me up at airport, another best friend and former housemate in law school. Jen looks beautiful, and is ready to drop. Could have the baby boy, Kyle, any day now. She eats the hot BBQ sauce. I haven't seen them since the wedding in Tahoe 3 years ago. The BBQ was quite good, though a bit pricey for my taste.
I am sitting for Dave's dog. Dave was another law school friend, and was an alcoholic, and he shot this dog once in a drunken accident. He later died in a drunken hot tub accident just over 2 years ago. Brett has kept the dog, and I have her tonight.
As Brett noted, gone are the days when he would pick Joe and me up at the airport and turn us loose to carouse the casinos until 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 am. Now we were all hitting the wall at 8:30 pm.
